Can't run, update or uninstall TrueImage Home 2010 on Vista (64)
This is somewhat involved.
1. Installed TrueImage Home 2010 on Vista (64) from the downloaded executable TrueImage2010_s_en.exe
2. Made backup images of the System and Apps partitions without incident
3. Later, noticed that the desktop icon for TrueImage Home had disappeared
4. Went back to the exe and ran the check for updates function
5. Went through update without any issues.
6. Upon completion attempted to run the application from the desktop icon. Receive a dialog that says "Acronis True Image Home is not installed." - terrific.
7. So thinking that the installation must have gotten munged somehow went back to the original executable and attempted to reinstall. Upon clicking on the Install icon I now get a dialog that states: "Installation Incomplete. The installation was interrupted before Acronis True Image Home could be installed. You need to restart the installer to try again.". But now the best part: "Cannot automatically install the following products since their newer versions are already installed. Try to manually uninstall them before installing these older versions."
8. Following the above directions I now attempt to run the uninstaller in Vista from Control Panel -> Programs and Features >> Acronis True Image Home.
9. After clicking on the True Image icon I get a dialog that acknowleges the operation: "Are you sure..."
10. Acknowlege by clicking Yes
11. Then a dialog from Windows Installer that states: "Preparing to remove..." then "Please wait while windows configure Acronis True Image Home" then
12. Nothing. And I mean nothing. I even let it sit overnight thinking that maybe its just taking is good old time.
So, Now what? As I stated at the top I can't run, update or uninstall. I hope that there is a way out of this. Oh, and I looked on the support page and in the forum threads for an issue like this but no help.

no thanks to Acronis for providing clear installation instructions:
How to install True Image Home 2010 and optionally the Plus Pack on Windows 7 (x64)
These instructions are based on upgrading to build 6053 for both of the above packages, and your user account has administrative privileges (the UAC does not have to be turned off, but doing so temporarily may help)
1. Start a new folder to collect all the files in one place.
2. Download the devcon.exe file from Microsoft at:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/311272
3. Running this executable will unzip the files. Change the destination to the new folder in Step 1.
4. Download the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/en-us
5. Right-click on this file and select 'Run as Administrator'; answer UAC prompts as necessary.
6. Open the i386 folder. Copy the devcon.exe file to:
32-bit OS: Windows\System32
64-bit OS: Windows\SysWOW64
7. Log into your account at Acronis if you have not already done so.
8. Download build 6053 (or later - but make sure the build numbers match):
TrueImage2010.6053_s_en.exe (and optionally TrueImage2010PlusPack.6053_s_en.exe)
9: Gather all your license nubmers, if any product was purchased as an upgrade, you will also need the license number from the previous version. I suggest putting all these numbers in one text file.
10. Download true_image_home_cleanup.exe from:
http://kb.acronis.com/sites/default/files/content/2010/01/7533/true_ima…
and extract the executable to your file collection folder.
11. Run true_image_home_cleanup.exe. This will wipe all installed True Image software from your system, including all your current settings and schedules. Reboot.
12. Install True Image Home 2010 - note: build 6053 and later includes the updated 'snapapi' driver. You won't need to separately install the 503 version. Reboot.
13. Make sure the software opens properly. If you are installing the Plus Pack, close True Image and go to the next step, otherwise, re-do your options and recreate your backup schedules. You are done.
14. Install the Plus Pack - again, make sure the build number matches your version of the base software. Reboot.
15. Make sure the software opens properly. Re-do your options and recreate your backup schedules. You are done.

The uninstall procedure that was given has thrown my $4,000 computer into an unending reboot loop that even the average computer repair persons have so far not been able to correct.
Thank you very much Acronis!

Hello Evens,
Thank you for your post and welcome to the forum. I will definitely help you with this issue.
I would really appreciate if you could get back to us with additional information that will help us to resolve it.
What OS and what ATIH version were you trying to uninstall? Could you disable the reboot loop the following way and get back to us with the BSOD error message?
Looking forward to your reply and if you need additional help please let me know.
Thank you.

Thank you for the reply. I really wasn't expecting any reply.
OK --- After taking the machine to 3 different shops, my neighbor was able to repair windows and the machine is now working (slowly).
It appears that Acronis10 is no longer installed, so we tried to reinstall it yesterday. When it asked for the serial number, we loaded the only serial number that I have for it. Then it asked for another serial number, the reinstall failed.
We are hoping to be able to restore the computer to it's previous condition using a backup that I had made of the C Drive the day before the crash using Acronis 10.
Please contact us ASAP. I have to get my Protools DAW back up and running soon.

Regarding the license.
Return to your Aconis registration page and it will list your software serial numbers which you have registered in the past. Possibly the v10 was an "upgrade" from a prior version so you will need to input the serial numbers from of the old version before inputing the version 10 serial.
However, if you have a backup from before the crash, you can use the user created TI Rescue CD and do the restore from the CD. If you do NOT have such a CD, then again return to your registration page and download the "bootable media" option. Once downloaded, then burn the file as an image onto a blank CD and it becomes an Acronis bootable rescue CD.
