Clone backup settings gone awry. ATIH 2011 Plus

Thread needs solution

I've got several external 1.5TB USB 2.0 hard drives hooked up here. I was backing up one and that was successful. I tried the Clone Backup Settings to another external drive. The first cloned DVD-sized file was 120606I304.tib, the next was 120606I304306.tib, then 120606I304307.tib, all the way up to 120606I304608.tib.

I tried to mount the second backup and got an error message about 1 backup on 2 drives, so I rebooted and took the cloned backup offline and mounted the original backup fine; rebooted again and put the original backup offline & the cloned backup online. Now the trouble starts. It tells me "Specify the location of the Volume 1" when volume 1 is on the other unconnected drive. I've browsed for it, that didn't help, I changed the drive letter from H: to I:, that didn't help. I'm beginning to think that when I hooked up the 2nd backup drive to do a cloning that the clone backup drive took the same letter as the original backup drive did during its original backup job, so that is why the numbering doubled up in this 304 DVD backup span.
I've wasted 75 hours on this easily, and I'm thinking about starting over with BD-R 25 GB sized files next time; but how do I Clone Backup Settings properly to a 2nd USB hard drive?

Eric,

You need to:
- have a different task, with a different name, for each disk your backup to,
- assign a fixed drive letter for each drive, using windows disk management. Ideally, use letters towards the end of the alphabet,
- assign disk volumes label names to differentiate your disk easily,
- create each task manually. You see, if you clone a backup settings and then edit the task, it can create issues. In general, although the product supports it, it is not recommended to change the backup name, destination, scheme or retention rules of an existing backup task.
