Clone Disk From IDE to Raid 5 - PERC 4/SC

Thread needs solution

I have a test environment where I'd like to clone my existing system partition (c:) on an IDE drive to a newly created RAID 5 partition that is on a Dell PERC 4/SC controller.

When I boot to the True Image boot disk and want to select the PERC 4/SC as the destination disk the state is "NOT INITIALIZED" and it cannot be selected.

What am I missing?

Your system disk is going to have the hardware drivers for and IDE disk controller and disk and not the RAID set-up. You'd be better off doing a normal restore and then creating the RAID array afterwards. This might require a bios setting change and the actually build of the RAID is done after booting up win -- check your RAID provider's instructions.

To initialilze disk, boot up win, go to my computer, Manage, Disk management, right click the disk and selelct initialize. YOu don't need to do the "high level" format. Initialize is a low level format marking that allows the disk to be high level formatted. When yourestore to the disk with ati it will take care of thehigh level format.
