Thread needs solution

I have an older (Intel Core 2 Quad) digital audio workstation (DAW) computer. It has various music production software programs currently installed on a win 7 platform. Yesterday I built a new improved (Intel I7 Core) computer that I would like to use as my new digital audio workstation.

My question is: Is it possible to move/migrate everything including OS, software programs from my old machine to my new Intel i7 computer?

If so, what methods should I use to accomplish this task?

Your best procedure is to perform a Disk Mode backup of your old system and then perform a Disk Mode restore using the Universal Restore feature of Acrones TI. See online web help.Backup and Restore sections for details. Post back any questions you have.

So would I need to manually install windows 7 onto the new i7 build or will the disk mode restore feature reload the Windows 7 from the old system disk mode backup?

Universal Restore feature of Acrones TI ? Are you referring to the premium edition Acronis TI or is this a feature in the standard Acronis TI?

Thanks.

Please review attached link reading Restoring Disks And Partitions and Acronis Universal Restore.

You will not need to manually install Win 7 on the new build. You will need all necessary drivers, chipset, disk, NIC, USB, drivers available in ready to use form on say a USB stick so that Universal Restore can install the drivers for the new build during the restore process.

Please read the guides in the link thoroughly then if you still have questions post back.

Please let me know if you're able to get this to work. I am struggling with this for some reason and I don't know why. The instructions provided here by Bob are spot on. Do not need to install Win7 on new build, the disk mode restore feature allows you to pre-load any drivers you want to install that will be relevent to the new PC. It will auto copy over all data and OS information. I would bet you may need to re-activate your Windows 7 though, since it's on new hardware, but not sure about that.

All,

When full Disk Mode backup is used this brings with it the Disk Signature which is what Windows and other apps use to identify hardware so Activation is not an issue.

Acronis Bootable Media Disk should be used to perform the Universal Restore which will bring the Disk Signature along with the rest of the MBR which is where the Disk Signature lives to the new disk.

When restoring system (OS) disks it is in my opinion best done using a LIVE instance of the Acronis app which is what you are doing when using the Bootable Media Disk.

The bootable media disk barely worked. I suppose it was because I was trying to install to a RAID 10 array with no Intel RAID drivers to load prior to the Acronis recovery attempt...

Needless to say I gave up on Acronis Recovery method for now. Instead, I will reinstall Win7 and load the RAID drivers during reinstallation process. Then I may try reinstalling the Acronis Plus pack and again try another recovery attempt.
