Cloned Drive Only Boots After Cold Boot
Hello -- I am running True Image Home 2009 and used the clone functionality to migrate my data to a new bigger hard drive. The clone process seemed to work but I am having issues now after a warm boot. After warm booting I get a "operating system not found" type of message and my PC will not boot. If I do a cold boot I get the Acronis F11 Boot Loader prompt and my PC boots fine.
Also note:
1 - First reboot after clone completed resulted in an "MBR error 3" message but system booted fine.
2 - After first boot noticed that the recovery partition (F11 prompt) was not activated so I activated it.
3 - Now my PC only boots after a cold boot.
Any ideas? The hard disk is a 1TB samsung disk and it's new with no bad sectors. Machine BIOS successfully detects disk on POST.
Thanks!

Is that recovery partition a factory thing or the Acronis one? What happens if you deactivate it?

It's an Acronis Partition. I'm fearful of deactivating it as I don't want to lose all my data.
After the initial clone procedure it was deeactivated so I activated it.

I never use the Secure Zone - not worth the risk - I prefer an external usb drive to hold my Backups. If you have an external, make another Backup to it so that you have your data then deactivate the SZ.
Don't you still have the smaller drive which is bootable and working?

Robert,
Couple questions.
What OS? Is this a dual boot machine.
Was the old drive disconnected prior to first boot of the new disk?
Can you describe your cloning procedures. Where was the new disk located during the cloning operation? Where was the master disk located during the cloning.
The answers to these might enable other forum members to offer additional suggestions.

What OS? - Vista Home Premium
Is this a dual boot machine. - No
Was the old drive disconnected prior to first boot of the new disk? - Yes
Can you describe your cloning procedures. Where was the new disk located during the cloning operation? Where was the master disk located during the cloning. - During cloning process original disk was internal, new disk was external. Ran the clone process from within windows, rebooted and it completed after rebooting via a dos type window.
Also note:
1 - First reboot after clone completed resulted in an "MBR error 3" message but system booted fine.
2 - After first boot noticed that the acronis recovery partition (F11 prompt) was not activated so I activated it.

Is this a dead thread? Anybody have any suggestions?

Is the original drive (the one cloned) still in the computer?
Are there multiple drives in the computer?
Have you checked if the BIOS reports a different drive boot order if you do a warm boot to the BIOS compared to a cold boot to the BIOS?

Does not change since there is only the new drive installed.

Is there a BIOS update available for your computer? If so, see if any fixes address any booting or drive issues.
What mode is the drive controller using (AHCI, IDE Compatible, etc.)?
Are there any external drives connected (USB, FireWire, eSATA)?
How many partitions are on the drive? I assume at least two (Windows and the SZ). What types are the partitions (Primary or Logical)?
What build of TI 2009 are you using? This can make a difference because Acronis changed how the ASRM works in the later builds.
Have you verified that the Windows partition remains Active for the warm boot?
Do you have a standard Microsoft OEM or retail DVD?
Can you do repeated warm boots into the ASRM (F11)?
Can you do repeated warm boots into the Windows "Safe Mode" menu (F8)? For example, boot to the Safe Mode menu and then do a warm reboot and try to boot back into the Safe Mode menu.
In other words, does the problem only happen when you boot all the way into Windows or does it happen without booting into Windows.

The issue is resolved. I replaced the 1.5TB Samsung disk with a new 2TB Western Digital drive and now the machine warm boots fine. It appears the system bios would not detect the disk on a warm boot.
