Cloning PC

Thread needs solution

I have an old PC running Windows 7 Professional. It has two hard drives one with Windows and programs installed. The second drive I use to store Acronis backup images. I want to transfer the old PC to a new one (I still have to build it). What is the easiest way to do this?
Should I temporarily install the hard drive for the new PC in the old and do a clone operation?

Greetings,
ATIH Premium includes the ability to restore to dissimilar hardware (Universal Restore). The safest/preferred method of performing a restore is to create a full disk image back up and restore this image to a new disk. Whether you want a cloned disk or are migrating to a larger drive, restoring an image is usually preferred to cloning. I recommend using a boot CD for these operations.

I realize you are hoping to migrate an install to new/different hardware. To be successful, I recommend having the new boards storage controller and chipset drivers available. Universal Restore allows you to specify drivers during the operation which often helps/determines your success. These .inf files should be in an unpacked format on a USB or external disk when the restore is attempted. I suggest reading about UR prior to attempting it.

I'd like to share this advice. New machine - When the option to perform a fresh install of the OS exists, I would go that route every time. UR can be tricky. Either way, I'd put the target disk in the new machine and restore to it there.
