Complete backup failures using 2012, not 2011
I have posted before in the NAS forum, but thought this deserved a new topic.
Since upgrading to 2012 from 2011 I have experienced the following issues:
- Backup always fails, message is always about some locked file (they are different everytime). I have tried to backup locally and to the network (server share, NAS, etc...) - Same results - fail.
- Can not see the NAS (Synology) yet alone backup to it (yep user name and password are good) when I click on the NAS item in the list.
- The synchronize popup is displays WAY to much (note: I believe this will be addressed shortly in an update).
- If Outlook is open, the backup will always list that as an open file in the log (it should handle it and continue)
I have tried to make 10 backups since the 2012 came out and everyone has failed due to some file lock issue. Why are there not any options to ignore these and continue, and or just deal with the open / locked files like other solutions do?
I would really like some sort of active list of issues and estimated time to resolve if possible.
My system specs are:
Windows 7 x64 with all updates
large SSD drive (Revo x2 480 gig)
12 Gigs ram.

Looking at other posts on the subject of NAS' there does seem to be a problem with users accessing Synology NAS systems.

I also have the problem that every file backup I run fails due to locked files. Once I ran it overnight when no other programs were running, and it failed anyways.
I'm NOT using NAS, and I uninstalled 2012 and then re-installed it from scratch, re-creating the backup task from scratch. Doing so didn't help the problem.

Sam,
Some people have found only ticking the parent/root folder rather than all the sub folders gets files and folders backups working.
What folder are you trying to backup, is it a shared folder or is it used by any programs that are open and running whilst TIH is trying to run?

I set up my system so that my OS is on C:, and everything else is on other drives, so that if I have to re-install the operating system all my data and apps are easily separated. What I'm trying to do is to back up all my "Users" folder on C:, and all the other drives. This used to work well on 2011, but always fails on 2012.
I tried to back up the system overnight when nothing else was running, but it still failed. (Even though no scan was running, 2012 complained that my antivirus program still had a file locked.)
Thanks!

Sam,
Did you install TIH for all users? It might be having a problem in backing up non logged on users user folders.
Have you ticked all the user folders, there seems to be a problem for some users if they do this and they've solved their problems by only selecting the parent/root folder.
You could just perform a partition image which will ignore the permissions.

Yes, I installed TIH for all users.
I tried again, removing all the other user folders from C:\Users. The backup still failed.
I was doing the same thing with TIH 2011 successfully, so it looks like they managed to break some core functionality.
Thanks for your suggestions!

We cannot click the entire drive, we only want to back up certain drives.
This is unacceptable and needs to be resolved ASAP or else the software is useless.
