Compressed Backup

Thread needs solution

Just had a question. When I select to back up my hard drive, it has compression set. Is backing up your hard drive compressed okay or should you really do a full uncompressed backup? Just want to know before I back up my hard drive. Don't want to find out the hard way by loosing files.

There is no risk in using compression.
If you content is the OS+applications only, you will save a bunch of space with normal compression and gain speed.
If your content is mostly compressed file formats like JPEG, PDF, MP3, DIVX/AVI/XVID, MP4, etc., you will not see much benefit and you will slightly slow down the backup.

I do use compression for my system partition, but I don't use it for files for the reason above.

Also note that using the highest level of compression will provide only a small amount of additional compression but greatly increase backup time. It's useful is space is really at a premium and time is not.
