Configuration file is not found and cannot be created

Thread needs solution

Hi, I am getting this error in acronis trueimage 2012 log "Configuration file is not found and cannot be created".
I'm getting it on both my Win7 ultimate and xp home computers. Both are 32bit.

I have tried searching and have found references but nothing to fix it or even to explain what it means. If you need more info I will be happy to provide

Thanks

Thank you.

I get the same message with Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit, with both the 30d trial version and after paying for and entering the activation key. Please post information on a solution or, if needed, I could also send a system report. Thanks

pk,
If you need office support from Acronis, then contact support via their guidelines and submit a request for help.

I see that others are having the same error as I am "Configuration file is not found and cannot be created" It seems that there is no answer to this problem at this time. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program a number of times, and still get the error. Does it have any affect on the backup schemes I have created? It only seems to happen when I start up ATHI 2012. I installed ATHI 2012 as an upgrade from ATHI 2010, would that have anything to do with it?

Hi Anton

I also get the message "Configuration file is not found and cannot be created" in Acronis Trueimage Home 2012 Plus, but the backup seems to be intact.
If you would like to have my system report, let me know.

Thany you
Andy

Hello Andy,

Thank you for posting and welcome to the forum.

If you do not mind, could you send me the report via a private message please.

Thank you.

Hello,

I get the exact same warning: "Configuration file is not found and cannot be created". It is the first time in 2 weeks since I got the ATIH 2012 that I got this warning. As soon as I saw it, I tried to make a backup and it worked OK.

So, does anybody have an idea what does this mean? Anything to worry about?
Is this a bug or am I supposed to get this warning?

More Info:

The warning shows up whenever I manually start ATI 2012.
I have a set of backups on 2 disks. My question: Does it refer to a certain backup that it doesn't find settings for, or does it refer to the ATI software global configuration (whatever that may mean)? What configuration is this warning refering about here?
Any illumination with the meaning of this warning would be highly appreciated!

I'm hitchiking on this thread because I have the same problem as the above posters. "Configuration file is not found and cannot be created". I'm using Acronis TI Home 2012 build #7119. I'm all up to date and things were running real good until last night when a scheduled backkup was still running this morning when I woke up and it was scheduled to run at 3:00am. I decided to delete all prior BKups and start over. I started a scheduled scan and nothing happened so I opened ATI and this is where we're at right now with this error. I use Windows 7 HP x64 and I just can't run this without backups. Too many bad experiences in the past, so I sure hope someone can help.

Anton,
I'm having this same issue. Currently, I have no local non-stop backup on this machine due to this buggy software.

The link you provided to send a private message does not work; when I click the "Submit" button, I get the error:

To field is required.
Disallowed to send a message without at least one valid recipient

Also, AcronisInfo crashes and does not produce the ZIP file. I downloaded the tool from the link you provided above.

My system is:
Windows 7 Ultimate 64
Acronis TrueImage Home 2012, build 7119

Same as me, since updating my ATI 2012 to build 7119 the other day incremental updates are failing. I have XP 32 Home. Clicking the ATI failure window it read, Please insert the last media of the archive and click retry. Also, by looking at the ATI event logs it said 'Error occuring while opening the File 0x400007', and there was also, 'Configuration file is not found and cannot be created', and then these error codes, 'Event code 0x013C0005', '0x000B03E9+0x0004000F+0x00040007+0x0000FFF0+0x80070003'. Any ideas what's wrong, anyone?
.

An error report can be alternately generated by booting to the bootable media CD and a report can be saved from CD menu and saved to a usb thumb drive, etc.

Kevin,
The easiest workaround is to cease to use the old backup task and create a new task. Point the new task to a new empty sub-folder. Your error message often relates to the target disk not being available.

Julio99,
Until you get your problem resolved, you can always use the bootable media CD and make your backups from the CD. You are wise to never be without your backups.

If you are still using the same task as before the update to 7119, it could help to start over with new tasks which point to an empty target folder.

Kevin,

I don't believe your Acronis event error and the "Configuration file is not found and cannot be created" error is related.

I believe this is your issue

Have you tried or are you able to successfully validate all of the images in this back up set?

Others, I've brought this thread to the attention of a Forum Team Support Manager.

I didn't really get any solution as to my problem, but the good news is I fiddled with a few of the settings and it all went back to a good starting point. I think I may have had some leftover tasks and the new backups I had created were trying to find them to join and they couldn't so they were giving me an error. Once I finally removed all leftover tasks (not just the backups) and started fresh everything went back to normal, which I'm more than happy with. I prefer using the default program and not the bootable media unless I have to.

I was not using the same task as before the update to 7119. Once I update the build the backups and tasks are al refreshed and renewed. No sense in using the old with the new. I answered what I thought my problem was although Acronis can be very touchy at times if things are not just done right. At times I find that you can make very few errors that this software will let you get away with and still work properly.

Volkan,
I hope this gets fixed quickly. The main reason I bought Acronis was for the Non-Stop Backup; otherwise, Windows Backup would've worked just fine on Windows 7. As of now, I cannot use NSB, so the feature that made me willing to buy TrueImage is no longer available due to a software defect that may or may not be fixed. This is an unacceptable situation. It's not an "inconvenience"...it's software that is not working, not doing what I paid for it to do.

I would like to echo Matthew Vanecek's sentiments. I am getting the same message in my ATI logs. This is my first day of use of this recently upgraded version. My full and 1st incremental backups appear to have completed without error. At least I think they have. Is there any way to verify this without restoring?

I have attached my zipped log file to assist the team in evaluating this problem. Your user base will be pleased to see this problem go away quickly.

If I was you and you still have that phrase about the configuration file I would delete your current backups and settings and schedule if you have one. I don't know if you use an external drive, but if you do clean that up and reboot. Once you reboot that should be like starting fresh and the phrase about the configuration file should be gone. That is what I did for mine with the same exact problem. I just cleared every old setting including the logs and started over. It all worked for me anyway.

Julio99,
I'm sure all affected by this appreciate your suggestion/feedback. The important thing is that the error message does not negatively impact the product's ability to perform backups successfully.

This is true. My settings just needed to be properly deleted and new settings created for everything to work right again. I think when this happened to me I was trying to change things in the middle of an archive or schedule and Acronis was somehow finding fault with that. In your opinion is this a bug of some sort or is it to attributed to someone like me doing things sloppily or maybe just using one too many shortcuts? I'd really like to know exactly what caused this if that is possible. Thanks.
I guess I am still getting this error message in my log file. Even after deleting everything and starting with a new task or backup creation, the error still finds it's way to the log file. It shows that the backup looks to be successfully created and I'm left with a yellow triangle and green checkmark in the little log calendar. I sure do hope these backups are valid if I have to use one.

I have a question regarding this bug or error. Should I have to run one of the backups that I created will it be ok without this configuration file? Because making these backups are a waste of time if they won't restore my system.

I deleted and recreated all my scheduled backups, and reformatted my backup drive. NSB still won't work, and gets the same error. Guess I ought to check the logs on my other File backups, but Acronis seems to think the backups are completing successfully.

My lack of confidence in this company's software is growing by leaps and bounds. Should I start looking for another package and vociferously recommending AGAINST Acronis?

I just want to say that I've been using acronis backup product throughout the life of my xp machines starting in 2006 and have had very good luck with it. My image backups have saved me countless hours of restoration on several hard disk crashes. I see no reason to lose confidence in Acronis ability to perform.

As to the issue at hand, it seems that these Configuration File messages appear when one invokes ATIH. I don't think it has anything to do with the actual backup process. In my case the timestamps on the error message show the error to be occurring long after the backup has completed. In addition, I did a validation on all backup archives and have found that they validate ok.

Further since I have installed ATIH on a brand new factory installed Windows 7 machine, I don't think this error is a result of sloppy operation. IMO this is simply an annoying but harmless bug. It would be nice if Acronis could confirm it as such.

Thanks rayh. Once again I reset everything in ATIH2012 and the backup came out perfect, not to mention it validated and the error was gone in the logs. Very strange indeed.

Now to see if it somehow finds it's way back into the loogs sometime before I do another backup.

The issue causes NSB to stop, every time. That feature is the only reason I bought this product, and it's a feature that I need. I've pretty much had many headaches with this software package, and judging by the traffic on these forums, others have, too. I'm glad it's working for you.

Plus, Acronis's customer service has been (for me) abysmal and truly unprofessional. It's not even worth opening a trouble ticket as they just run around in circles and end up telling you it's your fault, even though I search and find forum posts confirming a software defect from (apparently) Acronis employees.

Switching to a File backup is impractical as it takes 10 - 12 hours for an incremental backup to complete at any decent compression--that's per run, not just for the initial run.

So, again, it's working for you, and that's great. I cannot trust their operation, from faulty software to poor customer service. Others have similar problems, I've seen in the forums. My only mitigating factor and the reason for my tolerance thus far has been my Cloud backup has been working perfectly, so I am at least backed up somewhere, continuously. And there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of options in reliable software in the backup space. But I keep on looking anyhow...

As I said in my previous post, I reset everything and created a full backup as I always do and I noticed at the end of the backup that there was no bug or error about the config file not being found. When I got up this morning I opened ATI2012 and noticed that the error was back in all it's glory. Now I'd like to point out that when I ran this backup last night I validated it as I always do to make sure everything was proper. I was going to enclose screenshots of the error from this morning and the fact that the backup was completed and validated, but because I ran a successful Recovery today those screenshots that I had made and stored in the picture library are gone. "OOPS!" Bonehead move on my part so you'll just have to take my word that if you run a backup and get that config file not found and can't be created and the backup is successful, you'll have no problem restoring said backup because I just did it and it worked just fine. I know that question was asked earlier and it was bothering me also if I was running these backups for no reason and they wouldn't be recoverable because of this error or bug, but it's a moot point because the backups work fine if you have to recover it. Hope that puts someone else at ease.

I got one more question here before I retire this. Is there going to be a resolution to this bug or error any time soon? This inquiry is directed towards any of our fine MVP's from Acronis if they have any insight on this at all.

I also just did a backup and encountered the warning "Configuration file is not found and cannot be created."

In my case it was simply because I didn't think about what I was doing.

I had deleted all of my old backups and was making a new one. But I didn't notice that I had an external USB drive plugged in, and that the backup was being made to that drive. I had Acronis set to shut down the computer after the backup was completed. Before I restarted the computer, I decided to unplug the USB drive so that Windows wouldn't try to boot off of it. Duh! Not surprisingly, when I fired up Acronis to find my backup, it wasn't there. The fix was easy -- redo the full backup to the correct drive.

Perhaps a more helpful error message would have included something like "Cannot find file P:\My backups\..." so that I could have recognized that it was looking for a non-existent partition.

Win7 x64 Pro
ATI 2012

I am also getting the error in the log:
"Configuration file is not found and cannot be created"
but I am using an internal SATA drive,
not a USB or anything external.

Other threads say this error can be ignored, but
in order to feel confident a backup is going to work
I don't want to be seeing errors ...... :(

Hasn't anyone figured out a solution?
