Confused re True Image Home 2011 Builds
Hi,
I have Acronis True Image Home 2011 which I mainly use to clone 'backup'. My build number is 8,101 which shows as back in July of 2008. There seems to be another update which is more recent but the build number starts with 6....
My Help screen doesn't show automatic updates and so forth. Mind you I have disabled all but the core functions for cloning and disk utilities.
Anyone know whether I should download the build that is more recent?
Thanks,
Brenda

Brenda,
You don't have ATI 2011, you have ATI v11, which precedes ATI 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012. So you won't get automatic updates any longer.

ATI version numbering and the approxiamtely release period went
ATI 6 (2002), ATI 7 (2003), ATI 8 (2004), ati9 (2005), ati10 (2006), ati11 (2007), ati2009, ati 2010, ati2011, ati2012.
Each of these since ati10 is backwards compatibile as far back as version ati10 -- so even ati2012 can restore an ati10 tib. And ati2012, at least, will work restore tibs made with version ati8 and later (the official version compatibility chart is listed on this not very easily found Acronis Knowledge Base web page:
http://kb.acronis.com/content/3838
).
Generally, Acronis releases a new version each autumn.
RE updates, as Pat noted, Auto updates is a feature of ATI2011 and 2012. Wasn't a feature in older versions. However, assuming you registered your serial number with acronis.com, then you can go to acronis.com
click on Log in and log in, then select the Get Updates and you will be able be presented with a window that leads to all the builds available for whatever version you have (even legacy versions such at ati8, ati 9, and the great ati10 but not including the first two versions (ati6 and ati7). This version/build access page is one of Acronis's nicer features for its customers.

Now I'm thoroughly confused. I am registered for "Acronis True Image 11 Home (English) 1 license(s). So are you saying that Acronis simply changed from v11 to 'version 11'? I guess they did because I click on available *upgrades* and Acronis True Image Home 2011 shows up for a price. How very odd.
Thanks for the help.

I am registered for 10 and 11. Are there any substantive differences between what I have v11 and 2011? What I have works for cloning on Win7 now. What are the additional features of 2011?
Thanks,
Brenda

If ati11 works for you, thn i recommend you stick with it.
ati2011 is very differnt than ati11 -- it manages backups with an internal database that is still problematic instead of using Backup Locations; has very different user interface that not all users of older version like; and has lots of bells and whistles, which sometimes cause problems.
I use ati10 on any machine old enough that it will work on the; For those that are to new to use ati10, I use ati11. For the newer machines running Windows 7 I run ati2011. On my test machine I run ati2012.

Hi,
Thanks. ATI11 seems to work fine for cloning to a secondary removable/external hard drive which is my way of doing a true complete backup of data/programs/system, etc. on Windows 7 Home Edition. I really don't use the rest of its capabilities other than making a bootable DVD (not sure what I'd do with that since everything these days is OEM and media less).
I'm having to replace an older Win7 computer with a new one. So I'm hoping it will work on that too.

No. Acronis changed the way it named versions in 2009. After version ati11, they came out with ati2009 (or what would have been called ati12 except that Acronis changed is naming convention that year). ati2009 was followed by ati2010, ati 2011, and ati2012.
Ati2011 bears some resemblance to ati11 but one look and you can tell they they are literally years apart. The later the version, the farther away in design it is from ati11.
No matter what version you have, unless it's the latest version, Acronis will offer an upgrade price to bring to the newest version.
As my old uncle Abner used to say, "Just because some french designer has brought out shoes with spats, doesn't mean you have to wear them." To which I would add, "unless you really need spats!"

For w7 you'll need a newer version-- Ithink at least ati2010 or ati2011.
Also, consider making disk backups instead of cloning. With cloning you get one image using up an entiery drive. Doing disk backups you can usually fit several even many backups onto a target disk -- more eggs in the basket that way -- but its depends on your needs and preferences.

v11 and version 11 are the same thing.

What you see is an upgrade offer from v11 to 2011. Not an update. Updates are for build changes within a version, and a typically free. Upgrades are between version and are typically for a fee. It should be from v11 to 2012 at this point, by the way.

Not only weird but probably just plain wrong. The current version is ati2012 and if anything is offered for a price, it should be for an upgrade to the current version. One usually has to go to other sources to find "old" versions of ati to buy. Maybe the webmaster got confused about the version names too. Software version naming is very fashion conscious, and like all things superfical, can lead to serious errors ;)
good luck
