Continuous backup

Thread needs solution

I help to run an international photographic exhibition. The submitted images are projected in front of a panel of selectors who operate individual handheld scoring (number) keypads. These are fed through a single PC with bespoke scoring and collating software. We will be processing over 10,000 images over a three day period and needless to say we will need to backup the system at regular intervals. I am thinking of using Acronis True Image backup software set to continuous backup but am not sure how this will work with the files in question being continuously updated and whether the files will be instantly recoverable to a second PC in the event of a system failure. Is this the best route to take?

Acronis will do a fine job backing up your system under utilization. You could consider running:
- a full/differential system backup on a regular interval,
- a non-stop backup of the directories where your sensitive files will be managed. NSB uses a 5mn interval.

If you need more real-time backup, you can consider other solutions:
- Genie-soft has a free time machine like software. The pro version backs up every 3mn. The free version less frequently,
- Mirroring software can achieve real time data copy. I have used mirrorfolders in the past. The paid version supports RAID 1. Others have used Karen's replicator, even SyncToy with Task scheduler.
- With Windows, you can set RAID 1 volumes across 2 separate disks
- You can use fancier hardware solutions with RAID 5 or RAID 10.
