copy Windows7 x64 Bitlocker partitions

Thread needs solution

Hi there,

I want to move a Windows 7 x64 partition encrypted with bitlocker to a new SSD. Can I do this with Acronis 11 Home Edition? Do I have to stopp encrytion or de-encrypt to do this?

It depends on how the encrypt works. If the machinery is all on the disk, then you should be able to do a disk mode backup of he entire disk, swap disks, restore, and be back in business.

Stopping encryption would probably work if the above doesn't work while the disk is encrypted.

Heiko,

I would decrypt the partition before the transition. This will allow you to repair the startup easily in case you have startup issues. This will also allow you to control how the partitions are restored on the SSD and ensure alignment.
Make sure your backup contains the system reserved hidden partition with the OS partition.
See here on how to ensure alignment.

PS: make sure you backup your bitlocker key when you turn bitlocker back on.
