copying archives

Thread needs solution

I've tried copying older archives to another location and then adding them to the backup list via browse. I can't add them, I browse to them select and add and nothing happens. I've tried validating them from the archive item after right clicking them, I get "an error has ocurred in opening the script". I can't create a new backup because the drive isn't on the machine any more, what I want to do is duplicate them on another drive used for archive storage so I have two copies. Would appreciate any assistance. Thanks

Norman,

Try the validation from the recovery CD. Do you get the same error?
Validating a copied archive is a great idea, because a simple OS copy can introduce some marginal errors that validation could pick up on. But since validating a file "adds" it to the database, I am afraid that sometimes validating a copy can confuse ATI on how to update its backup list....

tried 2011 disk and 2012 disk. There is no standalone validate option on either.

Standalone validate via CD can be done using these procedures.

First of all in step 4 when "validate" is selected nothing happens on any archive selected? I also discovered that if an archive is listed, a second copy of it can't be added even if it's in a different location. The archives I can't add are copies of the same archive in different locations(copied with windows to another drive). The drive is not available to backup another time in a different location so I copied the archive to a different drive. I tried using " move" feature and it screwed up four other non related archives of different drives.

Make sure you browse for the backup first.

That is not surprising as ATI tries to make sense of which backup the archive belongs to. You don't need to have the copies visible in ATI for restoring purposes.

The move feature can create issues, definitely, but it shouldn't impact other backup tasks. If it does, this problem could indicate that your database is corrupted.
Move the TIB files you want to keep to another directory on the same disk, delete your backup tasks (ATI will complain that it couldn't delete the files you move) and recreate new tasks.
