Corrupted Office files when backing up from EFS folders/files to BitLocker drive
When trying to recover Microsoft Office files (*.xls, *.xlsx, *.docx tested so far) that are encrypted using Encryption File System (EFS that comes with Windows) and that were backed up to a USB drive encrypted using BitLocker the recovered file is corrupt. Word, and Excel can't open or repair the files. Other files don't seem to be corrupted, nor are Microsoft Office files that are in unencrypted folders.
Is there a solution to this or is this a bug that needs to be fixed? Obviously the most important files are encrypted ones.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Thanks, but this problem is different. The backups are set to not encrypt files and the restores are to the same computer and folder. I forgot to mention that the operating system is Windows 8.1.
Thanks for your suggestion.

There were similar issues with EFS encrypted files in the past, except that the problem was that you couldn't backup EFS encrypted files when set to store the files as unencrypted. As a result, you could only backup as encrypted which is dangerous in the case where you restore to a computer that doesn't have access to the original EFS certificates. Try to use sync to backup and backup your EFS certificates.

Copies of the EFS certificates are also kept on memory sticks and on paper in case they are ever needed so we are protected against losing access to them. The question or bug is why does this problem with backing up EFS encrypted folders/files only affect Microsoft Office files?
Thanks for you suggestion.

I talked with Acronis support (pay per incident) and they told me that "there are problems with encryption" and Acronis does not support encryption. Even though the Encryption File System (EFS) is part of the Windows operating system Acronis doesn't support it.
Although Acronis is refunding my pay per incident charge as they couldn't solve the problem it would be much better if they highlighted their inability to support the EFS in the product specifications. They are not refunding my purchase of True Image!
