Deleting Backup options

Thread needs solution

Hello

I have Acronis True Image Home 2011 and in the settings I choosed following.

http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/202/backupso.jpg/

Unfortunately it's german. After 5 incremental backups it should create a new full backup and delete the old backups. But it does not delete the old backups, it only create a new full one. So with time my storage space get full.

What I want is following. Create full backup - create 5 incremental backups - create new full backup and remove old full backup and all incremental backups so that only the new full backup is left.

What is wrong with the options?

Kurt,

You are confusing a chain and a backup. A chain is a full+5 incrementals in your case. With your settings, you would keep 5 *chains*, not 5 backup files.
To achieve what you want, change the number of older chains to keep to 1.

One of the most frequent mistakes made regarding backups is that too many users are too quick to delete their old backups. IMHO, backups should be retained until space requirements dictate their removal and having backups stored on multiple devices is an absolute necessity. The loss of one storage disk should not be a catastrophe so storing backups on alternate devices can be a real safety factor. It is not unusual for considerable time to pass before user becomes aware of an important file becoming corrupt or its contents is needed as it was on a particular date. Having an archive of backups can really assist with this type occurrence. My suggestion of number of x chains to keep is whatever your storage space will allow.
