Desktop problems since installing True Image 2013

Thread needs solution

I installed the full version of True Image 2013 on 21 December and now when I boot my computer, my desktop icons behave strangely.
Nearly every icon changes to just a white rectangle instead of the app icon (this includes shortcuts).
I cannot click on any desktop icons, if I attempt to do so my cursor changes to a rotating circle and just sits there doing nothing.
I can open all my software including True Image 2013 by going to the 'Start' menu or using taskbar shortcuts.
If I reboot the computer, the icons all return to normal and my desktop behaves normally.

Windows Vista SP2, Norton Internet Security 2012.

The second of my 2 attachments shows how the icons should look.

Brian,

For some reason your icon cache has become corrupted. To reinitialise the cache do the following.

1. Check you have 'show hidden system files' enabled.

2. Open Windows Explorer or whatever file manager you use and navigate to C:\Users\your user name\AppData\Local

3. Locate the file IconCache.db and delete it, you will be asked to confirm you want to delete this file.

4. Reboot.

Windows will automatically rebuild the icon database.

I did follow your instruction Colin B. I had a similar problem as described by Brian Langbridge except that it was not limited to the desktop, all Office 2010 file icons were affected in all my C drive directories.. My operating is Windows 7 x86 SP1. Unfortunately your suggestions did not work. I ran Windows 7 restore before the installation of True Image 2013, then I right clicked on one excel file that was located on my desktop, selected property then re-selected excel.exe as the default program, after I opened that file all the office 2010 files in all directories were OK. (by the way some of the Adobe Acrobat were also affected.)

Just to make sure it was not a freak accident, I created a new restore point and than re-installed True image 3013. The office icon actually get affected at about one third of the installation process. I search the internet for about two hours to find a solution but came out empty.

There is definitely something in Acronis True Image 2013 installation or software that interferes with the file icons for Office 2010 and Adobe Acrobat. I had to uninstall True Image and restore my system a second time. Browsing through my directories staring at white generic icons is too annoying. If Acronis find a solutions I will re-install otherwise I will ask for a refund.

Jacques,

I have no idea why Office 2010 icons should be affected. I suggest you raise a support ticket with Acronis as otherwise they may not be aware of the problem and it won't be fixed.
