Disk Clonning - Bigger to Smaller
I have a 140GB drive in my laptop and I want to clone it to a smaller 120GB drive.. Can this be done or must the drives be of the same size.. The disk has only about 45 Gb of data on it. I like to keep a drive ready to pop in if the installed drive fails when traveling..

Yes, that can be done. Do you have an enclosure for the other drive? For a better chance of success, do a reverse clone - put the destination drive in the laptop and the original drive in the enclosure. And do the process with the bootable Rescue CD.

Another question... where do I get or make a bootable Rescue CD? Is that a function available in Acronis 10?

Look among the menu items for Bootable Rescue Media.

Does the smaller (destination disk) that I will put into the laptop have to be clean or will everything on it be overwritten during the reverse clone process? I am finally getting around to doing this project.. Thanks

ATI sometimes gets confused when there are existing partitions on the destination drive.
If you dont need whats on the destination disk, its better to delete the partitions on your destination disk first and then let ATI put the data on the clean empty drive.

Hello all,
We are really sorry for the delay with the response.
Let me answer your questions.
1. You can resize the partition during Cloning process, so you can clone larger drive to a smaller one.
2. To make a bootable CD in Acronis True Image 10 Home please do the following:
Click Create Bootable Rescue Media on the toolbar or the sidebar, or select Create Bootable Rescue Media from the Tools menu. You can also run the Bootable Rescue Media Builder without loading Acronis True Image Home by selecting Programs -> Acronis -> Acronis True Image Home -> Bootable Rescue Media Builder from the Start menu.
Select which components of Acronis programs you want to place on the bootable media.
Acronis True Image Home offers the following components:
- Acronis True Image Home full version (Includes support of USB, PC Card (formerly PCMCIA) and SCSI interfaces along with the storage devices connected via them, and therefore is highly recommended)
- Acronis True Image Home safe version (Does not include USB, PC Card, or SCSI drivers. Recommended for use in cases where)
Please choose any of the above options, then select desired media and click Proceed.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions.
Thank you.
