"Disk doesn't have BIOS number" error when cloning.

Thread needs solution

Hallo,
I would like to clone my (only) disk.
The "source" disk is an SSD one (Intel, 320 Series, SSDSA2CW300G310-1PK), connected
to a SATA 300 connector of the mainboard (ASUS P6T Deluxe V2).
The "destination" disk is a standard mechanical SATA disk (Western Digital WD50 00ADS-00L4B1, connected via external SATA).
When I try to clone, short after aknowledging the request to restart the system,
I get the error "Disk doesn't have BIOS number". After that I can only cancel the operation.

Had someone the same problem and maybe knows the solution? (if any..)

Note: if instead the WD is connected to the motherboard SATA 300 and the Intel SSD is connected to the external SATA, cloning from the WD to the Intel works.

Thanks in advance for any hint,
Paul

Have you tried the cloning when booted from the user created TI bootable recovery CD?

The preferred method is

1. Install blank target disk inside the computer
2. Source disk to be connected any other alternate means. This is especially important if the computer is ThinkPad laptop.
3. Boot from the TI Bootable CD and perform the clone.
4. Upon first boot following the clone, only the the clone to be attached.

The method most preferred by many of the users is to use the backup and restore method to replicate the disk so the source disk is not attached and not at risk of a malfunction or a user mistake.

Hi,
thank you for your reply.
I tried the clone with the same settings but from the TI bootable CD instead from Windows (7, 64bit).
Strangely enough, this time the error didn't show up.
Thank you again!

Hello,
I would like to clone my (only) disk.
The "source" disk is a SATA WD, 500 GB connected to the mainboard on a DELL optiplex210L runing Win XP-profesional service pack 3 with all the updates.
The "destination" disk is a SATA disk (Western Digital WD 1TB, connected also to the same Mother board.

I have use the Acronis True Image 9 several times without problems and recently I upgrade to true image Home 2012 to the latest build 6154.

When I try to clone, short after aknowledging the request to restart the system,
I get the error "Disk doesn't have BIOS number".
After that I can only cancel the operation.

Thanks in advance for any hint,

Try the clone when booted from the TI Bootable Media Recovery CD.
Best if source disk is relocated and target disk is placed in its intended boot position--same prior location as the old one.
The target disk can be located elsewhere.

After cloning, shutdown and remove data cables to the old source disk so the first boot after clone is only with the new cloned disk attached.
