I could use some help on this I am not good on a computer but I keep buying The acronis program because it had always worked over the years and saved my info on SEVERAL disasters I had.

The normal TI recovery environment that you burn to a CD or put on a flashdrive is Linux and sometimes there are inadequate drivers for certain pieces of computer hardware. Most problems are likely to arise with the newest hardware.

BartPE is a product that works like WinPE which originally was a special Windows version supplied only to MS corporate clients for setting up large numbers of PCs. Since it was seen to be useful but not available to the general masses, a gentleman named Bart in Europe made a version that worked similar to WinPE. So BartPE is actually a Windows environment which uses Windows drivers and this normally gets around the Linux driver issues. You build a BartPE CD and you can include special drivers if you wish. The build process is highly automated but the first glance at creating one would probably scare you. IIRC the Safety plugin is a recovery environment based on some form of DOS and it does not support networking, perhaps USB,etc. I am going by memory of the old Safe recovery environment so my apologies if the latest versions are a bit different.

Do you need them? No, unless you are having trouble with the regular Linux recovery environment.

When implementing a new version of TI or any other backup program for that matter you should make a current full backup using your present version. This is a nice advantage being able to do this so if anything goes wrong with the new version you can restore your system!

Remove the old version, install the new version and create the recovery CD.
Make a Full archive using the new version.
Boot up the recovery CD and ensure you can restore the archive. You may want to try a validate of the archive using the CD before restoring. If it won't validate, it certainly won't restore.
HTH

If the recovery CD/USB that you create with Acronis True Image (ATI) is working fine on your computer, you don't need anything other BartPE or WinPE.
By working fine, I mean:
- being able to boot the computer on it,
- being able to browse to your backup location,
- being able to restore a couple of files (choosing recovery specific files and folders).

Well Thank You for your comments and help. I have learned a little more now. I use a secound drive (D) on my computer for my back up. It is exactly like my main drive (C) on my system. It shows the back up plus a folder that I can go into and it shows different programs (on the back up drive). the program also comes on when the computer boots up and asked if I want to recover "Hit F11). So I figure it works although I have not hit
F11 for a long time because I had my system fixed after using it about a dozen times and finally found the problem.
So should I hit F-11 at thwe begining? or is my back up fine since I see both the backup and a folder (which I can browse) on my backup drive (I do not put anything else on drive D)

I also have the CD with the 2011 prog. on it which I order every time I upgrade. Is the Acronis 2011 CD the one you are talking about or do I have to make some kind of backup CD? I did forget to mention I use XP Home for an O.S.

Yes. This is the CD. Make sure you test it. If your disk dies, F11 will not work.
