Do I need to move, or copy OEM zone?

Thread needs solution

I would like to Install my (paid for) TI 2010, But am afraid it might overwrite my original Win 7 Image on OEM zone?..is there an option to save or move that image during upgrade install?..(I did make a copy of OEM zone to an external drive using the TI "Restore" option in 2009 OEM version), But it may be buggy?..Thank you!

BTW I would like to keep this separate from other back-ups to use for disaster recovery or "first original state" to easily re-install windows OS.

Jim,
When you install Acronis, you do not have to create/enable the Secure Zone or ASR (Start up recovery manager). This will leave your disk the way it is now, just like installing any new software. You can also use a boot CD to create a full disk image back up of the entire disk. This can be used to restore the system image to any new disk should the original fail.

If however these do exist, you might want to disable them before upgrading, install, re-enable and create another back up. You'll lose what's there now, as copying back ups from the SZ is not supported... not saying it can't be done, just saying its not supported.

I however would not recommend upgrading over the top of an existing install that has SZ or ASR enabled. Note, you should have more than one back up of your system... and those back ups should not reside on the disk you are trying to protect.

I would then disable SZ and ASR. Then uninstall 2009, run the clean up utility (follow all instructions), restart and install the latest build for the version I own. Now re-enable SZ and ASR, create a new back up.

Thanks SS!..well I bit the bullet and installed TI Home 2010 and 1/2 way thru the install it gave me the choice to keep or delete the original OEM zone Image from 5-9-2011,..It simply changed to ASZ...I need that image to easily go back to Original "NEW" State...Now I would like to move the ASZ to a separate Extternal Drive, But keep it separate and bootable with Acronis Startup Recovery Manager, but also make a separate up-to date back-up also on External drive. I have seen in other posts it can be done?,or to not even use ASZ on C drive?..but I need to keep that original image somehow.

Jim,
Whenever I get or build a new machine, I make a full disk image back up before booting the OS for the first time. In the case of windows 8, I create a recovery disk that includes the recovery partition. On system builds, I often create a full disk image after windows is installed, then another after activation, and another after installing/activating programs (office, etc). This way my back ups are not tied to the drive I am trying to protect.

Thank SS AND Happy Holidays!,..I may have failed to mention that I purchased this win 7 PC about 2010 from a music vendor (Sweetwater sound) based back east, in Indiana, and they optimized the settings (AND BIOS?) for Audio recording, and they used Acronis OEM for re-setting in case things get messed up later..Now those settings may be out-dated by now?..I know more than I did back then about optimizing..But still don't want to loose that first image..(I already spent some $$ shipping it back to them for re-imaging/optimizing in 2010 after hitting the wrong option while Upgrading TI OEM to Paid Version)..BUT I may be asking the impossible regarding moving ASZ to another drive?..(I did sucessfully CLONE C drive to Ext. Drive) and now I have 2 un-lettered ASZ zones with TI 2010,But that's a little confusing,.Plus it filled up my 320 Gig Ext Drive, which I would rather use for Incremental B-Ups .and there is no option I could see to assign a drive letter to each ASZ..Maybe I should delete the Clone and be happy with ASZ on C drive?..Sorry for all the text!!

Jim,
You can try assigning a drive letter to the SZ and restarting windows. This may allow you access to the data on the SZ, I don't recall if this was previously successful. Again, its not supported.
