Duplicates of single version backups ... why???

Thread needs solution

I'm using 2011 software.

I've set my daily backup to single version and expect it to overwrite each time a new backup is created. At some point Acronis starts creating duplicate backups as opposed to overwriting as specified. I wind up with multiple repetitive backups as opposed to one. Why does this happen and how can I stop it?

What do you mean by "duplicate backups"? Are they truly duplicate, or are they multiple backups done at different times/dates and you just want to have all deleted but the latest one?

Multiple backups done at different dates. I've scheduled a backup to be done each day, and expected the most recent backup to overwrite that last backup. That folder would always contain one, most recent backup. Instead I might wind up with several backups done on different days. In the past the operation has been left undone once the storage device filled up. There might have been 20 or 30 separate backups done on 20 or 30 different days. As opposed to overwriting a new backup is created each time.

I can manually manage the backups, but I was under the impression that would be unnecessary.

That would happen only if you had set the backup task to do that. I suspect that you did not.

I suggest that you create a brand new backup task, backing up to a new folder, with your desired options:

Backup task was set to Single Version Scheme. It's description in the program is, "The program creates a single full backup version and overwrites it every time."

Pretty simple. However it is not overwriting every time. The question remains ... why?

Where was the destination drive, and how was it connected?

You should create a brand new backup task with your desired options, saving backups to a new folder.
