ensuring successful backup/recovery with dual-boot on separate drives
I currently dual-boot XP Pro and Vista x64. XP Pro was installed first on one drive. I later installed Vista x64 on a separate hard drive. I never user XP Pro anymore but the instructions for removing it without nuking the Vista installation are daunting even for me mostly because I'm concerned about having to reinstall everything and possibly losing my family's data.
That being said, I've been backing up both the old XP Pro partition on disk 1 and the Vista partition on disk 2.
Does backing up these two partitions on different disks allow me to successfully restore my computer? If not, what do I need to backup to ensure a successful restore?
If I'm backing up the right thing, is there a trick to getting it to work when restoring or do I just select the .tib file and let it go?
EDIT: Seriously? The forum gives me errors when posting so I try again and again getting the same errors and all the while it's successful? My apologies for creating 3 identical posts.
