Error 0x00580007 when baking up Microsoft Outlook 2003 using scheduled task

Thread needs solution

Hi,

Immediately after a scheduled task to back up 'My E-mail', I'm receiving the following error: Failed to back up file or folder 'Microsoft Office Outlook:/Profiles/Outlook/370FD06B209BAE418DE6FAA8D1FCC13B/'. The reported event code is 0x00580007+0x00580007.

The error only occurs when running the scheduled task (or running the task manually); it does not occur when I select Backup, File backup, My E-mail... and selecting exactly the same settings as with the task.

I read a post that there might be a problem with password protected PST files, but that is not the problem in my case, since when backing up manually as described I'm not asked to enter any password.

I'm running True Image Home 2010 build 6.029, Vista Home Premium SP1, Microsoft Office 2003 SP3.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Same event-code with Windows 7 (Ultimate) and Outlook 2007

after 3 times pressing 'ignore' the backup terminates with message 'successfull'.

Same problem here Win7 Home Premium 64bit, Outlook 2007, Acronis TI 2010 build 6.029

It works if Outlook is closed. :(

exactly the same for me.
Windows Seven 64 bits + outlook 2007
I have the following message (in french) :
"Echec de sauvegarde du fichier ou dossier 'Microsoft Office Outlook:.Profiles/outlook/6D6C3B2563214B4E8AF13F82A590DE08:4 '

If I close Outlook the backup works correctly.

Acronis , fix the bugggggg !!!!!! pleaaaaaaaaaaaaseeeeeeeeeee :)

It would appear Acronis Backup does not have an "open file" option.
If you shut down outlook and turn off (off line updates) it will work but that is a pain in the but.
On XP use Migo (formerly Stomp) PC Backup Server which handles open files with ease BUT it is not as fast as Acronis BUT it is MUCH faster that the NT Backup or the slow boat to Chinaware Backup that comes with Win7.

Same problem using Windows 7, Outlook 2007. The problem is as described above, only when Outlook running and presumably has the file open. TrueImage 2009 handled this okay and the problem only appeared when I upgraded to 2010.

Seems like a bug that has been introduced?

Same problem here.
Windows 7 (64bit), Outlook 2007.
This worked before I updated to Ture Image Home 2010.
Only way to backup now, is to shutdown outlook first.

Updated In January.

Error received:
Failed to back up file or folder........
More information about this error and applicable solution may be available online in the
Acronis Knowledge base.
To access the online resource manually enter the event code at: http://kb.acronis.com/errorcode/
Event code: 0x00580007+0x00580007

Anyone open a support ticket yet? We have, and are awaiting an answer..

I had the same problem and used a program called closeoutlook.exe to shut down outlook before the backup.
Just call it to run first in the pre/post commands under backup options. You can get it from here http://seriouslytrivial.com/freeware/

Thanks for the response.
Appreciate the thoughts, however while that may work for you, it will not here. The having to stop and restart Outlook is the problem.

I have been a long time Acronis user, and with the most
recent release, I must say I am dissapointed to say the least. My current solution is to use the older version.

I am still awaiting a response from an open case with support.

Hello all,

Please accept our profound apologies for the delay with the response and for the difficulties you've experienced.

Let me clarify you the current situation with the issue.

Acronis Development Team is working on the issue and the fix for it will be definitely included in the next official build of Acronis True Image Home 2010. Unfortunately, I can't tell you the time frame when the new update will be published.

As for now, there are 2 possible workarounds:

  • Make sure Microsoft Outlook is closed (not running) at the time of the scheduled backup task execution. The backup should then be successful;
  • Run the backup manually (i.e. without scheduling it). The backup should then be successful even if Microsoft Outlook is running.

Once again, we're really sorry for the inconvenience.

Thank you.

According to your statement from Feb. 18th, this problem should be fixed in the next official Acronis True Image 2010 Update.
Unfortuantely this is not the case. The currently available update "Build: 7046" mentiones this error as a known issue only.

I (and probably others as well) would highly appreciate if you to set this issue to a higher priority.

Outlook is usually running all the time and a scheduled backup does not make sense
if have to "manually" close Outlook before the scheduler "automatically" starts the backup.

Kind regards

Hello Andreas,

I've just checked our QA tracker and indeed, the issue is not fixed in the current build. We'll do everything possible to resolve the issue as soon as possible. I'll update this thread once any new information on the status of the issue will be available.

The temporary workarounds are still the same - turn Outlook off before making a backup or run the backup manually.

We are really sorry for the inconvenience.

Pleas reply to this thread if you have any additional questions.

Thank you.

Andreas,
I have been a loyal customer (HOME and ENTERPRISE) since day one. This quirk costs me an additional $199.00 on each stand alone system I intstall Acronis on. I'm forced to buy PC Server Backup (which supports open file backups) and Reschedule all work with Acronis so that I can manually monitor it. Now I can understand that some things take time but having owned a software development company in the past, this is a bit long in the tooth. I suggest you put a flame under the butts of whoever can fix this code. Sorry does not cut it any more. FIX IT. Pretty Please.
Thanks you.

Just wante to share my experience.
We Switched to a different vendor. I opened a ticket, and it took over 30 days for an initial response.. Opened Jan 25, 2010. On March 6'th I was kindly asked if they could close the ticket, this was part of Acronis Response.. And, I was never contacted again.

This Issue has been posted in September 2009 - the first reaction by Acronis was in February 2010 ...

"Acronis Development Team is working on the issue and the fix for it will be definitely included in the next official build of Acronis True Image Home 2010" (note the definitely) ... does not really provide confidence as the next official build mentiones the problem as a known issue only!

Any news? Meanwhile I noticed many complaints about Acronis True Image 2010 in various backup related IT forums. Seems that the quality of this software is no longer what it used to be.

Hello Andreas,

We're really sorry but the issue is still not fixed.

Please accept our profound apologies for the delays, we'll do our pest to prevent such situations from happening in the future.

As I already said, I'll definitely update this thread once I have any information about the status of the issue.

Thank you.

It was disappointing that Acronis Moderator had to remove my prior post. It did not mention name, and referred to
email, chat, etc only in a third sense.

So I will then write this instead, and it should not violate any terms..

I truly believe, and it is entirely my oipionion that the Acronis product dropped the ball here and does not want to support the previously supported feature. It has been stated several times clearly in this forum, that engineering is aware of the "problem", and is working on a solution. Now the answer is this feature is not part of the release. While we have been patient, it appears based on other threads, this was not part of the release, we are a bit upset. This may be a costly mistake.

This was a marketed feature, that appears to have been dropped. Emphasis on "Outlook Email Backup"...
This product can identify the email client type, access the specific data for that product/client, and yet it is not a supported feature.

After 9+ years with Acronis, I think we are leaving. We have begun moving
14 Commercial server clients to a competitor product, as well as all the client machines.

I believe the Acronis product is a good backup software application, just not a great one.
Something as simple as backing up email fails using the new release, never mind that it worked in a previous release, coupled with the lack of product support, we cannot recommend Acronis products to anyone.

While us leaving will not affect Acronis, I think Acronis will be seeing more people leaving in the future. Is it any wonder why the overall product rating within the IT community has dropped to an all time low?

--john

Documentation indicates it is fixed, just not in the latest build.

I wonder why does it work to back up the email pst file while it is in use but not the settings backup?

Hi
who ever is interested: We switched to NovaBackup! Product works and the
support is as expected: competent! I can really recommend the product.

Hello, it's a pity look how this problem backing up email comes from 2009, we'r in a year middle and no fix is released, so, I have the same problem, I can't backup my email, I checked and my Outlook is closed before scheduled backup starts. You need to know this backup was making normally and suddenly it stops it's work, and now, the error message appear (Your attachment failed), saying Acronis True Image can't backup my Outlook .pst
I hope no wait so long time, to be able to use this important option.nes
thanks for your support
God bless you, bye.

Well this thread says it's fixed. Running the backup manually did not resolve the problem for me though.

http://kb.acronis.com/content/8223

Just got an email about an upgrade to 2011.

Will there still be a fix still as suggested by Ilya on 30/3? Or am I expected to pay for an upgrade to get a product that I am not sure will work correctly (Acronis have you fixed the bug in 2011). Thinking about it, not sure I want to pay for an upgrade just to fix a known bug!

Yours disappointed after having been impressed with previous versions.
