Error E00070021
Hi there,
I always got the error E00070021 after one more internal hard drive was added. It is Acronis True Image Home 11(build 8101). I did the snapapi upgrade, disabled the antivirus, the error is still there.
Attached is my log file.
Any suggestions?
Thank you.
Gary

Hello Colin,
I did remove the 1.5 TB drive and no change. Up until 1 month ago, everything was working properly. I believe a windows update was performed at the same time of any hardware changes because I have put the system back in the original configuration and it still does not work.
I am backing up my main drive K: which is a 1 TB drive onto an external eSata and also an usb drive (which i have tried both connections) which is a 1.5TB drive F:
My other two drives C: and D: are just for data storage/transfer space which are both 1 TB.
For some reason, Acronis can not lock K: to perform the backup.
Thanks for your help.

Does anyone have any ideas about this problem? I need to fix it soon as I am running about 6 weeks without a backup.

Garry,
TI 11 will lock and image from and image to, your C: and D: drives, correct?
Is the 'K:' drive a brand name box?
If you change the drive letter from K: to any other free letter does TI then work to this drive?
If possible can you attach the drive internally and see if TI then copes with it?
I'm trying to narrow down, whether it's TI based, System based, Drive based, USB based (still possible) or drive box based.

Hello Colin,
K: is my main drive (windows XP installed) which is internal to the system. It is a WD 1TB Caviar Black. I am trying to backup to a 1.5TB WD Caviar Green which has been installed in a ProBox model hf2-su2s2. It is currently connected to the system by USB. When everything w2as working properly, it was connected be eSata.
C: and D: are not involved during the backup. They are just for data storage/transfer.
I will try to install the 1.5TB internal and confirm the status.

Gary,
How is the external drive formatted and what drive letter does it have?
Could you try making a manual image to C: or D: ? This would show if TI is completely broken or not.
Have any updates or new software been installed between when TI worked and now, including Firewall updates?
If the Caviar Green is connected to a front USB panel try a rear one, also ensure no external hubs are connected, no card readers, no graphics pads.
If you have a rescue CD, does this work with your setup?

Hello Colin,
Just installed the drive internal to the system and still receiving the E00070021: Unable to create volume snapshot.

The external F: is formated NTFS.
I have just tried a manual backup of K: to C: and received the same error.
I have not installed any new software that I can think of on this system. I am not sure if Windows updated there firewall.
I have removed the Card Reader from the system.
I do not believe I have a rescue CD created.

OK,
Maybe the Snapshot driver needs to be updated. Here is a link to one, BUT I'm not sure if it is OK to use with v11, so if you can make an image of the K: drive and store it on the C: or D: drives you will be recoverable should this update only be intended for TI 2009 onwards.
First though check that your rescue CD boots your PC and recognises all your drives (the 1.5TB excepted). Come to think of it, you might have a problem here, not sure how large a drive the Linux drivers in TI 11 can handle - very important you find out.

Have you tried again with the card reader removed?
You replied to your reply whilst I was still replying to your reply - phew!

Hello Colin,
I have removed every external connection except for Mouse, Keyboard, monitors, network and power. I have the four internal drives installed on board all NTFS and all Sata. Three are 1TB wd black and 1 WD1.5TB green.
I have tried to back up to F: and it failed with same error adn tried backing up to C: and failed with same error.
I have not installed the Snapapi380 at this point.
Up until 6 weeks ago, it was backing up file (with validation of files) to the 1.5 GB external eSata drive.
I will try to clone K: onto another spare 2.0TB drive and post the results. This will take a little time to perform. I will try the clone before I install teh snapapi380.

Hello Colin,
Just an update.
I did clone my K: onto another 2TB WD drive and started the computer. The computer seems to be operating properly. I then tried to backup New K: to F: and still receiving the exact same error.

Colin,
Do you think I should try and install snapapi380?

Double check the KB link, I'm pretty sure that, that SNAPAPI is for all version except TI 2009 and 2010.
If you are happy with what you read, then I'd apply it. Personally I would feel happier if I had an image of my system drive to fall back on, but OTOH as you are using XP, you have the choice (if you get BSOD) of running a repair install, which will get you going again pretty smartish.

Hello Colin,
I have installed the new SnapAPI and I am still having the same unable to create volume snapshot.

Do you have any more ideas. I am getting worried that my system will crash and I do not have a backup. I need this running now.

Gary,
I've got no further ideas at this moment. As it has worked and suddenly stopped, I can only think a Windows or other software update has caused a problem other than a virus etc.
Thinking about it, just removing the drive doesn't remove it's instance from registry - so if that is where the problem lies then it is probable it will still be there after drive removal.
I would suggest that you make a rescue CD and make sure it will boot your PC and then make a ful disk image using the rescue CD.
Then my only remaining suggestion is to uninstall TI 11 , reboot, re-install and see what happens then.
