Error: Failed to check last versions of the backup.

Thread needs solution

Hello

One of my three systems on which I have Acronis True Image 2014 installed is giving me the error: Failed to check last versions of the backup. This happens when I click on Recover.

I had manually deleted some old backups (I assume this caused the issue) because the self-retention kept eventually failing. But apparently the software keeps a record of backups. I cannot find the file to clear it.
Can you give me some advice for clearing the history of backups. My system still thinks there are 26 versions of the backup even though I've deleted them all.

Thanks.

Shutdown ATI
Go to c:\programdata\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Database
Rename archives.xml archives.OLD
Restart ATI
Validate your backups to make sure you don't have other issues.

This sounds like what I need to do. I'm getting the same message from the 2015 product. Unfortunately, the directory doesn't have an XML file.

Can I do the same thing with Archives.db, or is there some other solution in True Image 2015?

Thanks!

Same problem here with True Image 2016.  Cannot rename Archives.db

Is there another file or another solution?

Thanks

Bonjour,

Bonjour kiki01,

There is no archives.xml file in ATIH 2016 - this now uses an SQL database to store backup information instead of using XML files.

If you are seeing the message to 'locate the last version of the backup' then see post: https://forum.acronis.com/forum/117232#comment-359062 where the following advice was given for ATIH 2016 users with this problem.

Hello, everyone!

If you're having the "Please locate the last volume..." issue when opening backups in Windows Explorer - try deleting all the files in C:\Users\[your_username]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Database

This may help resolve the issue.

Bonjour Steve Smith,

D'avance merci

Bonjour Kiki01, please download a copy of the Log File Viewer app and look to see if there are any messages in the Service log files for your backup and restore tasks.

It may also be helpful to run a Validation of your backup archive to see if that gives any messages or problems?

Please see post: 119318: Failed to check last versions of the backup when selecting recover disks - where this issue was caused by swapping the destination backup disk drive for backups and causing problems in the Acronis Database information store.

Post: 99567: Failed to check last versions of the backup - was also related to disk drive letters changing for backup tasks.
