Error initializing planned tasks

Thread needs solution

Hi,
we are using TI Home 2010 with XP prof.
when a planned task starts we get the error message:
Initialization failed - error 0x000142 and the task is cancelled.
The same message is displayed when the planned task is started manually.
When we set up a backup/image manually, it runs without any errors.
What does error 142 mean and what can we do to fix the problem?P.S. I am not quite sure, but I think the error occurs, since we installed the latest MS security patches.
Thanks in advance.

Hello Udo!

Welcome to our Forum, we're glad to have you with us! I understand your concern, and will be glad to help you!

It's hard to say for sure due to the lack of sufficient diagnostic information, but according to your description it looks like a Scheduler drivers conflict. Probably it was caused by installing the latest Windows updated: drivers quarreled, and it caused the malfunction of automatic backups.

We can resolve it following these steps:

  1. Update Scheduler as mentioned in this article.
This is important, as it may save you time and work:
Check whether the issue remains. It's highly possible that it will get solved by the update, but should the problem persist, please:
  2. Download Acronis Scheduler Manager. Open command prompt (Start -> Run -> cmd); run schedmgr.exe and issue the following command:
    task zap
This will erase all traces of the tasks.
  3. Reboot the machine
  4. Recreate the tasks

I'm sure this will help. But in case the backups still fail to start, we will need to take a closer look at the issue. Please gather

  1. Acronis Info
  2. Exact sequence of steps performed
