Error: this is not the last volume of the back-up archive & error, no item to display

Thread needs solution

Am using Acronis 2009, build 9,796.

Made an image of my XP PC, called it XP, and via my network, put the image on my VISTA PC, under the User/Public folder. Then I moved the XP image to a folder named "XP Machine" on the C drive of the VISTA PC.

Had a need to restore, booted the XP machine with the TI boot CD, was going to restore the image to my XP machine, from the VISTA PC where the back-up is, and as I searched via my network and found the folder "XP Machine", opened it and got the message "No items to display". Since that did not work, copied the XP image to the VISTA C drive, and when I try to restore from that, get the "This is not the last volume of the back-up archive" error, and cannot restore.

The only way I can restore is to copy the origional backup back into the User/Public folder on the VISTA PC, where the image was origionally saved, and then was able to restore sucessfully.

Is there an option/way to back-up and image and them move that image to a different folder/location and restore from the new location, without getting these error messages?

If I ever had to re-install my VISTA machine OS, then am concerned that I woule never be able to use that back-up image again

Would appreciate any assistance with this.

regards...

Hello Roman,

No worries, I will help you with this situation.

As far as I understand, you have saved your image via network, and then copied it to the C drive, but you're able to restore it from original location only, is that correct? How many parts does this backup contain? Are there several files or just a one?

In this situation it looks like your backup is being corrupted once you're copying it to C: drive from the shared folder. The message "This is not the last volume of the back-up archive" means either backup corruption or lack of backup volume. Could you please try moving the backup to any other folder on your Vista PC and try validating it? Validation is the option to check the backups for corruption. It's available in Actions -> Validate archive) you can find the detailed information about this option in 11.1 Chapter of this User's Guide).

Generally, corrupted archives could be created because there are some bad sectors or unreadable data resides on your HDD (in case of immediate corruption right after creation). This is not our case. In this particular situation corruption can be caused by network dropouts occurred during the image transfer.

Additionally to this, you are welcome to ask me any other questions concerning Acronis, and I will assist you further.

Thank you.
