Error Recover operation Failed

Thread needs solution

I get the attached error message "recover operation failed" when trying to restore an image. I have used it for many Dell's before and it seems like I am getting more and more same errors. I am on build 6,574. Will the new build fix the issue and if so, how do I get the new build? Thanks.

If you didn't used to get this message, then started getting it and are getting it more and more, then it doesn't sound like aproblem with ATI but a hardware problem.

I suggest running chkdsk /r on source and traget drives. IF they do not show any problems then I'd run memtest overnight to see if there are any problems out inthe farther reaches of memory. While most programs don't make use of all the memory, ati generally does and therefore can hit bad spots that other progs don't run into.

IF either test reveals a prob, replace hardware accordingly.

I am using the recovery on brand new Dell M6600 laptops. I have 10 of these laptops and tried it on 2 of them which has the same error. When I said it didn't happen before, I was referring to older systems. Any other suggestions? I read somewhere that this might be due to the MBR partitions or something like that?

I am having the "Recover operation failed" message. I've done this successfully several time before, usually to upgrade a user's drive size. I have ATI 2013. I got this message when trying to restore to the installed drive. I thought it must be a corrupt drive, so I installed a brand-new drive and did the Add Drive function. Still getting this message. The log file says, Run List Corrupt".

Need help! This is an important workstation in our office.

BTW - is there a way to post my own messages in this forum. This thread is a bit old and doesn't really apply directly. I have logged in.

2013 does support Win7 but not 8 or 10.

The recovery should occur when booted from the TI Recovery CD.

You can try using the steps in my signature link 3 below, and item 2 within that link.

You can post your own thread here.

GroverH: Thanks for your quick response. I'll keep the "new thread" link for next time. Yes, this is Windows 7. I had followed the same procedure you outlined in your tih2012-disk-option-restore.pdf. As I said, since I had trouble restoring to the same drive I installed a new drive and did do the 'Add Drive' step. Everything I did matched with your instruction through Figure 7. However, when I did 'Next' on that screen I did not get the same screen you show in Figure 8 which has "Destination of Disk 1". Instead, I get a screen that shows the list of partitions and asks me to select a target for each in turn. There is no "Recover disk signature" checkbox. This is all odd because, as I said, I've done this numerous times in the past with no problem. Any idea why I didn't get the "Destination of Disk 1" page? Was it some option I chose incorrectly?

Sometimes ati wants you to assign the partitions--iirc, ati2013 was especially insistent about this. ati 2014, not so much. You can restore just by assigning each partition as the choices come up. Just accept the default offerings. Worst case, if you don't get a working restore you can try other methods.

"You can restore just by assigning each partition as the choices come up." That's exactly what I did, numerous times in fact, both with the original drive and the new drive, but always ended up with the "Recover operation failed" message with "Run List Corrupt" in the log.

What "other methods" do you have in mind?

Is this just a "too bad for me" situation?
