Failed email notification when task triggered from windows scheduler

Thread needs solution

Using ATI Home 2010, Windows 7 64 Pro.

I like to have my PC wake from sleep every night to run a few Acronis tasks. To accomplish this the windows scheduler wakes the PC to run the appropriate acronis script. The jobs work fine, and the post-backup script I have set to put the machines back to sleep also function as designed.
What does NOT work is the email notification. Nothing is sent. If the task is triggered manually or via the ATI scheduler it work fine, and the email is sent.
Email is only not sent when the task is triggered from the Windows Scheduler. It's not the email settings or anything like that, as notification works otherwise.

Help.

Hello David,

I will do everything possible in order to resolve the issue you experience.

Here are some possible reasons for the issue:

  • Mail server uses encryption protocols (SSL/TLS) - this is only valid for Acronis True Image 9.1/Echo;
  • The firewall, antivirus or other security software blocks Acronis product from accessing the network;
  • E-Mail notifications are rejected as spam by your mail server;
  • An issue with the product.

Solution

  1. Go to Tools -> Options -> Notifications -> E-mail -> E-mail address and set the E-Mail address there in angle brackets:

    (!) Please make sure you set the E-mail address in the form of <name@domain.com>:

  2. (!) If the SMTP server does not require authentication, make sure the User name and Password fields are left blank.

  3. To prevent SMTP from not detecting the notification correctly, in Acronis True Image do the following:

    • Go to Tools -> Options -> Notifications -> E-mail -> Additional e-mail parameters... and make sure that the From: and Subject: fields are blank:

    • (!) If a login to POP3 server is required before accessing SMTP server, make sure the option Log on to incoming mail server is selected.

  4. If any firewall, antivirus or other security software is installed on the machine, make sure that the following modules are added to the list of trusted applications in the security software:

    Acronis True Image Home (any edition)

    • C:\Program Files\Common Files\Acronis\TrueImageHome\TrueImageHomeService.exe
    • C:\Program Files\Common Files\Acronis\TrueImageHome\TrueImageHomeNotify.exe
  5. If you suspect that the E-mail notifications are rejected as spam by your mail server, ask your network administrator to confirm that and add an exception for them based on the format of the email notifications.

If none of the solutions help, please collect Windows System Information File, screenshots of all the E-mail settings and a PCAP log (see Collecting PCAP Logs).

With all the information collected, contact Acronis Customer Central

If you are not using the latest build 6029 you may want to update to it.  I am not certain if the issue is addressed in the new build at this point, however it is generally a good idea to be up to date.

Let us know if you need further assistance.

Thank you.

I also have the exact same results as David. The email notification (as well as the backup and validation functions) work fine if the Acronis task runs manually, or if it runs via time schedule. However, if the same Acronis task is run via windows scheduler, either manually or set to wake up and run, the email notice does not happen, and no error in log. The backup and validation functions still work fine!

The 4 items discussed by Dmitry in reply #1 do not seem to apply.

1) If I put the < and > around the email address, it is rejected. Even the "send test email" fails! The name and password are filled in, for authentication.

2) The additional parameters are blank as described.

3) Failure is the same, even with firewall and antivirus disabled. Any way if this were the trouble, it should also fail if run without windows scheduler, but as stated, that works fine.

4) Same here, should fail either way.

Would it be possible for some post processing code in the acronis task to send the email? I assume the log info is still available at post processing time.

Any other suggestions? And, can the post processing code be used to shut down the computer? That option is only available on a manual run of the acronis task.

Thanks for any advice .... Bob

EDIT:
Is perhaps anyone familiar enough with Windows scheduler to have some advice on this, since the notify only fails in that case, as described above ??
Thanks again...... Bob
