Failed to open backup

Thread needs solution

I am using Windows XP SP3 with internal SATA drives "C" and "E". I use drive "E" to backup drive "C" daily. Also use the Acronis Cloud for specified file backups from "C" independently of the local backups.

For local incremental backups I am getting the following error:
"Failed to open backup E:\Mybackups\Volume (C)\Volume (C)_inc_b7_s7_v1.tib. Make sure the backup location is accessible and contains all versions of the backup. This backup may also be corrupted."

After this error persisted for several days, today I removed all ".tib" backup files in order to start over with full backup, followed by incrementals. My latest backup name today is now Volume (C)_full_b11_s1_v1.tib, but I am still getting the original error above showing "inc_b7" in the name. And the status shown after backing up again is "The last backup has failed". When I use Windows Explorer to look at the file name on "E" under "Mybackups", it appears OK (approx correct file size).

Do I need to reset the local backup mechanism in order to erase any old references to "inc_b7" above?

Yes, I would agree.

If the task is a scheduled task, change it to "not scheduled".
GH1. How to change a backup task from scheduled to "Do Not Schedule".
Then recreate a completely new backup task pointing to a new and empty storage folder on D.

However, before you do the above, you may want to try the Recovery repair procedures discussed in this link. This fix may work for you as well on the missing file.

-------------------------------------------------------------

If you do start over with a new task, consider setting up the new task using the same procedures as below which creates a revolving groupd of chains with autuomtic deletion by the program of the older chains.
GH12. Create Custom Incremental Backup Scheme. Keep 4 revolving chains of 1 ful & 6 inc each.
