Failed to Read data from Disk

Thread needs solution

Hello, I am having problems cloning a hard disk. I keep getting a error message, "FAILED TO READ DATA FROM DISK".
From reading some simular posts I have tried chkdsk /r /p, but still get the same thing. When I first ran acronis 2012 for the first time the program did make a clone of my disk0. Then I reformatted and tried it again this time with only 1 partition and it wouldn't do it. Can it be that since my drive0 (source drive) has two partitions I need to partition my destination drive with two partitions. The source drive has two partitions 1 200 MB partition and a partition with the balance of a 80 MB HD. When I originally ran the clone app I had created 2 partitions. 1 with 200MB and the other with the rest of my 250GB drive and acronis 2012 did create a cloned copy.

I just repartitioned the destination drive back to 2 partions and retried to clone my drive0. This time it would not let me. The software kept jumping out of the Acronis reboot (blue screen) and the computer reboots back into windows.

If you want to do a clone, you will get a copy of your source disk, and anything you have on the target disk will be replaced during the process.
To do a clone, start the computer from the recovery CD, and do the cloning operation there. YOu will notice that the recovery CD does not assign the same drive letters to the disk/partition as Windows does. Look at the disk/partition labels to make sure you select the right source and the right destination.
If your target disk is a disk of a different size, you should choose the manual cloning method so that you can control how each partition will be resized on the target disk during the cloning process. In particular, if you clone to an SSD, make sure you leave a 1MB free space (offset) before the first partition, and make sure each partition has a size as a whole number of MB. This will ensure drive alignment.
