failed to read from sector of hard disk 1.. what is hard disk 1? the data drive? or Backup drive?

Thread needs solution

just received an error from our work Pc stating failed to read from sector 737,720,434 of hard disk 1, try to repeat the operation. if the error persists, check the disk using check disk utility and create a backup of the disk. Failed to read the snapshot ()x10C45A) CRC error (0x100155)

what is hard disk 1? the data drive (os drive) or the back up drive?
I ran chkdsk on Os drive no problems found?

Thanks in advance!

you guys have no issues sending me upgrade emails, and you cant reply to a simple question such as the one asked?
"what is hard disk 1? the data drive (os drive) or the back up drive?"

Not impressed one bit.

I can't answer yur question form the information you have posted. Please include a screenshot from Windows Disk Management which will identify which hard drive is which.

there is only one drive on the work PC (RolandPc). That drive i ran chkdsk on...no issues.
The backup drive is on a server (\\Liege)

I'm still confused on which drive Acronis is calling hard disk 1?

Thanks

My best guess based on the limited info you have provided is that Disk 1 is the server drive. What operating System are you running?

windows 7 on pc, and server 2008 r2 on server
i have 6 pc's all backing up to a OS backup drive, all the other PC's back up weekly with no error, only this work PC. so im confused on how it can be the drive on server as well?
the work pc chkdsk came back a0ok.
quite baffled on where to start troubleshooting.

I told you that based your limited information that was my GUESS. Try running the drive manufactures diagnostic on the PC drive. If you could post a screen shot of the Windows disk management of the problem PC that would help. I ahve attached a screen shot of my machine

below you will find screenshot of disk management.

below you will find screen of Server Drive (you will notice there are numerous Pc's, tablet etc on that backup drive.)

im wondering if maybe the roland pc backup (work pc) is corrupt on the server, being no other pc's with acronis are throwing errors, and drive works as expected?

i cannot believe Acronis nor others have not seen this error, and above all are unware what acronis means by hard disk 1 has bad sectors? is hard disc 1 considered the Data Drive or BACKUP file? especially in my case where i have data drive on work pc, and backup is located on aserver. i really wish this error wasnt so vague, so i could figure out which drive is caussing acronis to say there are bad sectors.

The screen shot shows that Disk 1 on the computer in question is removable media such as a flash drive There is no media present so the task is trying to read a non-existent disk, therefore the read error. I would create a new backup task pointing to Drive 0 which contains your OS on C: contains your boot partition which should be set to Active.

well I created a new profile as sugested. (Test) screenshots attached.

(Disc mode/partition mode selects all 3 shown in screenshot) Which is how the old profile was setup as well.

same error. (see below)

Please note this backup has been running since 2014 flawlessly each sun, and no changes have been made to the true image profile or pc.

Thanks for your assistance with this.

RolandPC_Backup_Test Task is waiting for user interaction.

Have you tired running this task while booted from the recovery CD? Have you tried running the manufacurers disk diagnostics on the drive you are trying to backup? The error you are receiving is usually associated with bad sectors on the hard drive. That is why I suggested using the manufacturers test SW.

Solved...

I took your advice, and ran WD diagnostic extended test, and it verified there were bad sectors, ( i had previously ran the windows chkdsk, and ran belarc advisor which gave a SMART status of healthy. so i really thought all was good)

Tthen I went into acronis profile, and checked settings, and i had it set to backup sector by sector, and then i disabled that/saved it, and ran the original backup, and it completed successfully, and the backup shows on server's backup drive.

Thanks Thomas for the well guided help...Much appreciated!
