Failure to clone using V 2012
Keep getting "Out of range" response. What's happening?

Try using the ATI bootable rescue media.
I would prefer that you do a Backup and Restore rather than a Clone. Backup and Restore are much safer and more flexible than cloning. There's almost never a need to clone. Backup and Restore will accomplish the same end, but in a safer procedure.

Tried booting from CD and rescue CD, get same result every time. Prefer to have a cloned backup. Have done this many many times without a problem.

"cloned backup" ?? You prefer it on what basis?
The result of a Backup and Restore is identical to the result of a Clone, but is safer and more flexible.

Want a bootable cloned hard drive. The problem is with this computer only. Will try an image to see what happens.

Quote the exact and complete contents of the error message, and include a screenshot. Out of range can be a video-related issue, but without the full message it's hard to tell in this case.

Time to give up on this an move on. Beginning to suspect a video card or monitor resolution problem. After the Out of range comes up, the screen goes black.

That is a video issue. You can insert commands to run with a different video mode.
