Failure To Install ATI 2015 - SOLVED

Thread needs solution

Attempting to install ATI 2015, but it fails with the following error:
++++++++++++
Installation has failed.
Fatal error during installation
Could not open key: UNKNOWN\Components\DA42BC89BF25F5BD0AF18C3B9B1A1EE8\0B6A3A4091E8BB9428FF565C5AF519D7. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.
Failed to check a serial number.

Tech Service said it was caused by a corrupt .NET Framework. I repaired that, but the installation still fails with the same error. I also ran the installation as Administrator, but the results were the same.

Any hints???

Robert,

One of the root causes for such errors is indeed problems with .NET. If repair of .NET didn't help, then there may be registry permission problems => those can't be fixed by simply running installation under admin account, some registry checks should be made:

https://kb.acronis.com/content/33458

=> this KB all in all describes the algorithm how to locate the keys and change effective permissions on them.

It was indeed a registry permissions problem. I found the resolution at: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3581 before I checked back on the forum for replies...

ATI 2015 installed fine after the fix. I just don't understand why such permission issues exist. If I install something as admin, that should cover all bases, I would think... I guess NOT in Microsoft's sandbox...

Thanks!

Robert,

Just for information - Confusingly there are two Admin options in Windows, one where a user has Admin rights - similar to right clicking and using 'Run as Admin' and proper Administrator User which is a special user option that since W7 is not enabled by default.

The Administrator account actually has more access to the system then logging on a standard user with Admin privileges.

Note the wording difference - Administrator User Account - Local User with Admin access.
