Full PC Backup Image Fail to Open Data Stream on First Backup

Thread needs solution

I have a client pc that fails every time at the very end of the initial back to open data stream. It's a large back up, about 210gb. I have another client PC that backs up to the same NAS, the initial backup was about 50gb and it has no problem.

I should also mention, with this problem PC I'm able to back up specific files/folders just fine and that adds up to about 180gb just fine without encountering this error.

Log attached for reference

Do you have consolidation of backups turned on? I recommend you use ATI without that feature that is prone to errors. Use rather simple cleanup rules.

Hey thanks, from the looks of the logs it appear I do, but I can't find where to turn the setting off? I have ATI 2015. Any tips?

Can you post a screenshot of the backup settings, in particular the backup scheme settings? Sometime the word consolidation is erroneously used by the log/UI

I've attached a screenshot. Sorry to the delayed reply and thank you!

Choose "create a new version after X incrementals"
Then Choose "Keep only the most recent Y backup chains"
A backup chain is comprised of a full and all the incrementals built on that full.
There are several considerations when choosing X and Y:
- ATI will always do a new full backup before deleting any chains. So make sure you always have enough space on your disk for a new full backup and then some
- choose Y so that you last full backup would never become so old that you would not consider restoring it. You choose choose X to be 3, for example, and run your backup roughly every week. Each new full would be a monthly backup.

Depending upon the type of backup scheme you wish to create, here is an example of each type. These can be set up for Disk image, or Partiton, or Files-folders backups. These example show how to set up automatic cleanup so the program will do the deletion after it reaches your set goal of how many chains to retain.

Editing an existing task is not recommended. Rarely does an edited task perform to user expectations. It is usually better to start with a new task using a new non-identical task name and point to a new storage sub-folder so each task has it own storage folder/sub-folder. Old task can be stopped or deleted from the task listings.

Thanks, I gave these a try. I'm having issues where the connection to the NAS times out. Though it appears to be working fine with the file back up. I guess I'll just stick to that rather than the full image back up.

This could be because of power settings in Windows, because the NAS terminates the connection after a lack of activity (I have this feature on my Synology NAS for example), or because something going wrong with the backup process and then the former 2 could kick in to terminate the connection.

Anyway, you should be able to produce (very) large TIB files from your system to your NAS.

Maybe a thing to try is to backup a USB disk and see if the problem subsists. That could help you isolate the problem to the Acronis connection with the NAS.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll give that a try. I think it may be related to the network adapter or network. Though, like I said, the folder/file backup through Acronis is works fine.
