General Question as to how Acronis True Image works
I've just recently purchased Acronis 2014. I've back up Once. I'm trying to back up again. The file I'm trying to back up is 974 Gb. I have a 2 Tb hard drive. The software crunches for 4 hours and "Then" tells me the drive is full. I have my settings for "Incremental" backup. Am I correct in understanding that the second backup is a "Full" backup, and only when I "Consolidate" the software adds only the incremental files not previously saved, into one complete updated file?
So If I want to save my 974 Gb dBase, I have to buy a bigger backup drive?
I had assumed this software would only save the "Incremental" data, not resave everything again. Hell, if I wanted to do this, all I would have needed is a single drive, erase and copy again and again.
Can someone tell me exactly what happens or if I'm correct in my observations? Or, a solution
Thank You
Rick

I am sorry that your comments are so confusing to me.
You said two conflicting statements.
Am I correct that the first back up is a full back up? [Yes or No]
Am I correct that the second back up is only supposed to be incremental? [Yes or No]
My first BkUp shows 974 Gbs on a 2 Tb drive [This drive is too small?]. You're telling me that I need a 3 times disk size or I need to get a 3 Tb drive to handle two [2] full backups, depending on your answer above?
I bought this software so that it would do the work of only backing up the incremental files AFTER my first BkUp. If I have to save two full backups then I wasted my money as I couldn't have just as easily copied raw files on to a second drive without spending my $$$.s.
Every time I've tried to back up it tries to make full copies. I'm trying to understand how it is "supposed" to work. Yes, I have selected "Incremental" in my BkUp settings. And ....................... thank you for tolerating such basic questions, but either I don't understand what is supposed to happen, or I can't figure out the settings.

Yes, the response is yes to both your questions. However, do be aware that the program will create a new full replacement full before it deletes the oldest chain of the 1 full plus X incrementals. So for a short period of time, you have one more full before the deletion of old chain occurs.
thus, unfortunately, you need to allow that extra space for the hidden presence of the replacement full.
When storage space is tight, you may need to keep fewer backups ; or,
delete the oldest chain manually( within the program) before the replacement is created.

Right. If everything works fine, ATI does a full backup, then the following backup will be incremental *provided that* it sees the first backup correctly. There are also backup settings where you can ask ATI to never delete the very first backup of a chain. In that case, ATI will do the first full it will not delete, then another full, and then an incremental (*provided that...)
