Hangs in "calculating time remaining"

Thread needs solution

Acronis TrueImage Home, build 6625, freshly installed and running on a brand-new Windows 8.1 machine. I set up a file and folder backup of documents, pictures, music, etc., backing up to a Synology RAID backup device on my LAN that has plenty of space for the backup. It calculated the file size for backup without problems (about 62 GB) when I was setting up the backup job. When I start it, it hangs with "calculating time remaining" and stays there forever - 36 hours the first time. The job can't be stopped, and after a cold boot it starts right back up and hangs in the same place.

The only way to get rid of the backup job is to cancel it with Task Manager and uninstall the software completely. After doing so and restarting the machine, I reinstalled it and set up another job from scratch, simpler than the first one, and it behaves the same way.

I see from the posts on this forum that Acronis backup has had this problem for years, in several previous versions, and still has it in the 2015 version. As far as I can tell, Acronis has never acknowledged this problem or responded in any way.

What are you people doing to get around this problem, if anything?

Thanks.

I have the same problem. Hangs in a backup job where the target is a remote location that is inaccessible.
Please advise a way to kill the backup because all other jobs also hang waiting for it complete, which it never does and never gives a time-out.

Please.

Acronis techs have a knack for creating more problems than they solve. Still hanging at Calculating Time Remaining. Selecting Stop has no effect. Shut down power and reboot, then start backup again, and still hangs at Calculating Time Remaining. They never reply to forums, which means they don't monitor them. And they want me to buy the 2016 version, after I bought 2014 & 2015 versions with problems? Acronis has 0 (zero) support.

In the majority of these cases, either the file location (destination) is not available because either a path cannot be resolved, or an authentication issue exists. We suggest using a FQDN or IP to ensure path to the destination can be resolved. In the case of a NAS, all except "public" shares (in most cases) require an authenticated users to access the shared resource (destination). Being able to "see" a folder doesn't mean you have read/write access to it.

That is all very well shadowsport. It explains why it happens, but how come that we get stuck in the situation?
Is it terribly difficult to build in a time-out function or to accept a cancel request?

Has there been any followup from Acronis or otherwise on how to deal with this situation?  I have been stung by it too!

I upgraded to 2016, and it works like a charm.  No issues for a few months now.

No comments from supprt staff so far.
Acronis 2016 and the hang happens whenever the my PC is sleeping when the backup is scheduled.
Comming back from sleep there seems to be no way I can cancel the backup and the only solution is to reboot my PC.

Our computers are never set to Sleep.  So wouldn't know about this issue.
