Having a problem performing a recovery

Thread needs solution

Hi. So, I have had success before, but not this time.

Two days ago, I formatted a brand new HDD, and installed W7. Updated to SP1, and applied all of the other applicable updates. I can boot into W7 on that HDD with no problem.

I installed Acronis, and did a full b/u to my external USB drive. I then took that new internal HDD out (Seagate), and popped in another brand new formatted HDD (WD). Using the Acronis bootable CD I had made previously, I did a restore from the .tib file on the USB drive, to the new internal HDD (WD). I was told the process completed, and I then exited Acronis, removed the CD, removed the USB dirve, and attempted to boot into the HDD (WD).

I am, however, getting an error after my BIOS splash screen:

Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key

I have tried power cycling 3x and always get this error. My first thought is that maybe this is b/c the brand of HDD is different - can that be it? If not, can someone explain what I have done wrong here?

p.s. - the HDD does indeed show up in the Boot Order of the BIOS

Thanks in advance.

You can review my singnature link 3, item 2 inside that link. It might give you a clue as you compare procedures.

You might consider putting the new disk back into the computer and then boot from the TI Recovery CD, and perform a new full backup whereby you checkmark the block besiide the disk so all partitiions gets included within the backup.

Then, put the new target disk back into the computer on same SATA connector (usually 0) as the removed disk.

Rrepeat the disk image restore but a format is not needed but I would use the Add new disk option included in the TI Recovery CD (before the restore) so you remove the residue from the failed backup. Then do a new restore according to my guide. Do check the "recover disk signature" as per guid.

First boot following the restore should only be with the new disk attached.

Check to make sure on first bootup that the disk is being selected for boot.

If it still fails, use your Windows Recovery CD and do a "Startup repair".

Hi - thanks for your time.

Sorry, but I am a little lost reading your post. Putting the recovery disc in, checkmarking the block beside the disk....

Also, I want to be able to do this w/o the need for the Windows Recovery CD.

So, I have some new info.

I tried an older b/u to this new (WD) HDD, and it worked just fine. So, the process and the disk itself are not in question. It would appear as tho the b/u itself is screwey. One thing I will say - when I go to b/u, I am in partition mode, I see two listings:

1) The OS (C) drive, which is labeled as NTFS

2) Unnamed partition, which is labeled as FAT 32

Ideas?

Thanks.

Attached is a screenshot, if that helps.

-edit #2-

Attached is a shot of my disk mgmt. So, the FAT 32 part appears to be that EFI part. Is that what is screwing me up here?

Solved.

Apparently, I inadvertently selected the UEFI installation from the W7 disc.

I have redone the install, choosing the "regular" option, and now I can b/u and restore w/Acronis without issue.

I guess Acronis doesn't like it when the boot files are on a separate part?

Cheers.
