Home 2010 Does Not Work with SATA Drives; Removed it from my PC
I have wasted countless hours and burned CDs trying to get Home 2010 to work with my SATA Drives. The Recovery CD from the program as well as the ISOs posted on the Acronis Web Site do NOT work. Home 2010 Version 5055 works, but will not restore a later version image. The Universal Restore in the Plus Pack will not work either.
Home 2009 was fine, but they changed something in 2010. Tech Support is clueless and cannot fix the issues. One tech in particular, Anshul, could not fix the problem and would never reply to emails. I also emailed the Tech Support supervisor and he did not reply either.
This company has changed in both attitude and performance. I would stay away.

That's the first positive info I've seen in this sorry saga.
I tried to restore a system on to my SATA using TI home 2009 and in boot mode it couldn't see the second SATA HDD which it had been merrily backingup to for weeks. Thank heavens I had a separate backup on a USB drive that saved my bacon. I've now completely wiped and re-formatted the installed backup sata HDD, which DD9 can see from bootable media and TI2009 can see from windows but not from the bootable media. If TI 11 fails, I'll move to paragon since I've already wasted a huge amount of time already on trying to fix this. And I'm certainly not moving to TI2010 with what I've seen on this forum.

I uninstalled successfully TI Home 2009 installed TIv11 and got the same result. TI v 11 can see the second SATA HDD from windows but not from the boot disk so I can't backup or restore using the boot disk. I can only assume that it's the TI Linux kernel not being able to address the Nvidia controller that this PC has. Seems like a Paragon trial for me unless anyone has a solution from Acronis.

Sorry it didn't work, Jon. I've found that waiting a few minutes for drive discovery works - when booting from the CD, it seems to take forever for the program to locate your drives. Eventually, mine were seen, and I was able to restore from my backups. It may be that you just didn't wait long enough. Dunno....

I have contacted support on this issue many times. Currently, the issue has been upgraded to Tier 2 Support.
Support is clueless on this issue.
I agree with a comment above, DO NOT upgrade to Home 2010.
I have applied for a refund and you can guess, I have NOT heard a word. Acronis has gone to the dogs as far as I can tell.

I built a new system with a sata III 6GB/S drive. Both acronis 2009 and 2010 se the drive in windows no problem. However the recovery boot disks do not. I downloaded the iso boot disk, that doesn't see the drive either.

I'm having the same problem with TI 2010 in Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. Built new system with SATA III drives (boot drive is sata II). Creates image fine. but reboot to restore from bootable media fails miserably. Bootable media can't find usb keyboard and mouse. Plugged in ps/2 keyboard to navigate. Reports incorrect location of IMAGE, probably because it doesn't know there is that small partition Windows 7 creates. Cannot navigate, no usb recognition, no support unless I pay. Is there an alternative application that works?

Someone on this message board recommended this free O&O software as working well after they had uninstalled 2010.
I have NO personal experience with it and no association with it but am just suggesting you could look at it.

I am still using Acronis 2010 with Win 7 32 bit even though it has glitches. I just don't use any of the "fancy" features.

Add me to the Chorus. TI Home 2010 and SATA drives are bad news. Drive cloning does not work.
I uninstalled TI Home 2010 and re-installed TI Home 11 and all seems to be well again with drive cloning.
I have wasted a lot of time and effort with TI Home 2010. Acronis should refund everyone who bought this unreliable piece of ______ (fill in the blanks).

I tried Norton Ghost 15 and their recovery boot disk recognizes all my Sata drives including the Sata III drive. Also, when creating the recovery disk it allows you to add additional drivers yourself. Acronis should take note.

Hello all,
First of all, please accept our profound apologies for the delay with the response and for the difficulties you've experienced.
We've just updated out bootable CD images in customer's account. Those new ISOs should work fine with SATA/SATA2 drives. Please download updated media from your account, burn it and check if it works for you.
- Log in to your account (if you do not have one, you will need to create it);
- Once logged in, click My Products & Downloads:
- Scroll down to the registered product and click Bootable Media:
- Click Download:
-
Acronis Bootable Media will be downloaded as an ISO file. See Burning an ISO Image.

The date on the iso file is November 23rd, not new. Downloaded and tried again anyway. Booting from the recovery CD my Sata III drive is not recognized. I got my hands on a Shadow Protect rescue disk and it does see my Sata III drive. So, both Norton Ghost 15 and the latest Shadow Protect rescue CD's recognize my Sata III drive where Acronis does not.

The new media file is NOT posted, so again Acronis Support is not supporting us. Clearly, if Norton Ghost 15 is already supporting SATA III, they Norton is way ahead of Acronis.

Well, Acronis sent me an email today with a link to a new iso file. I tried the new iso file. It's the acronis 2009 boot cd and it does not recognize my sata III drive. I paid for Acronis 2010 what a waste of money. Who can tell me how to get a refund I have had enough.

I have just submitted this problem to tech support (case number 00545114):
"I am trying to clone a hard drive with this product which I purchased today and I get an error as per the attached screenshot.
I am trying to clone one internal 250GB SATA drive to another new 1.5TB internal SATA drive and the clone fails from both the program and the boot CD (build 6053) with the same error.
According to information on your forums, this is a common problem with your products and it is quite shocking that it has gone this long without being resolved for so many months.
Furthermore, even if I have a solution to clone the disk, if the restore is not going to work with a SATA drive this whole software is completely worthless.
Please either give me an immediate solution for this problem or give me a refund."
I have spent the entire day trying to "fix" this issue and stupidly thinking that there was a problem on my end. How could I have known that a backup and restore program with a clone drive function is completely incapable of doing ANY of these functions with a SATA drive?
Hope to get some immediate feedback.

I just sent a message on the Bart Pe info page and will repeat it here. I have Tru Image 9.0 and 10.0 and Disk Management 10.0.
I use the Disk Management for hard disk config. works ok.
I have been using Tru Home for couple of years to clone my Hdd's (Sata).
I just attempted to clone a 1.5 Sata, Samsung Sp1614c to a 3 gb Seagate. Clone failed and made both drives unuseable, One I returned to vendor. The Samsung I still have but it will not load windows, load all files to reboot and then returns to install cd as a new install. Is there a way to recoop this drive.
I have no desire to start building cd's Bart or otherwise, I purchased your software to do my cloning, if it will no longer work, I will go to Norton. Mr email is ewelchngv

Hello all,
This would provide us with detailed information on the hard disk partition structure.
Edwin,
If I correctly understood you, your operating system doesn't boot. What is your operating system? What do the words "load all files to reboot and then returns to install cd as a new install" mean?
- Se connecter pour poster des commentaires
Hi Mus, In attempting to load windows XP to the Samsung Sata 1.5, drive and is couple of years old. After the failure I attempted to Load XP again to recoop the drive, the program loaded to the point where all system files were recorded and automatically reboots to start new system however it would not boot back to program it reverted as a new installation at the cd.
I resolved all this by doing three full formats of the drive and it loaded windows and I am now using the drive to write this note to you. The new drive I returned to vendor it was a seagate 160gb Sata 3.0, with w/NCQ, and the NCQ addressing is what I believe caused the cloning to fail. Just a guess.
I have since ordered and received a new Western Digital 160gb Sata 3.0
I am cloning from a older Sata 2.0 to a 3.0 newer drive and will be cloning in reverse as needed , I use one drive as a back up and the other for regular use, and I reclone about once a month to keep both drives updated.
At this point since I am cloning from slower Sata to a Faster Sata and visa Versa, is Tru Home 10.0 capable of this or do I need to purchase Tru Home 11.0 the failure to properly clone leaves me in doubt as to proceed. Tru Home 10.0 is build 4942, Sept of 2008. Mr. Welch Thank you.

Hello Mr. Welch,
Thank you for your response.
Acronis True Image 10.0 Home is an outdated version, and we do not develop it any more. Probably, Acronis Bootable Media will fail to detect your hardware properly, the clone operation performed from within Windows may fail also.
You need Acronis Bootable Media for disaster recovery purposes.
I am sending the latest version of ISO file available for this version via Private Messages, please create a CD and see if it works. Otherwise, you should upgrade your license to Acronis True Image Home 2010.
In this case I may recommend you to install a trial version of Acronis True Image Home 2010 available here in order to make sure that the program runs flawlessly for you. Create Acronis Bootable Media and check if the CD is able to detect your hardware.
If you would like to purchase the upgrade to Acronis True Image Home 2010, please visit the Acronis online store.
Please do not hesitate to ask additional questions if the provided information is not clear or you need a further assistance.
Thank you.

Hi, I wish I had seen this forum before I spent several days trying to no avail, to clone my SATA drive. Like several others, I booted from the CD in the package I bought. ATI Home 2010 did not work for me. I use XP-pro and want to make a clone of the old drive on a larger drive. The old one is Seagate SATA 1.5TB /FAT32, new one is Hitachi SATA 2.0T /NTFS.
Can someone tell me how to generate a bootable CD with the latest version of the software, so I can clone my hard drive containing Windows XP-pro
Thanks

Hi Mus,
Thanks for the info. However as my previous mail advised, I have no desire to make recovery disks, I clone my drives and operate one and use the other for a complete backup and do a new clone every month.
I purchased your new home 2010 with the add on pack today and will clone drive today.
Will let you know how it all comes out.
Again I am not interested in recovery of my system the clone works fine for me, been doing it since 2007. If something happens to my main drive, I plug in the clone and use that to repair the old drive. I keep all my files that are not replaceable on a Usb Mass Storage.
Thanks again. Mr. Welch

Hi Oleg,
Purchased and installed True Image 10.0 and cloned my Samsung 160 gb 1.5 Sata to my new Western Digital 160gb 3.0 Sata with no problems am writing this from the new drive.
I am getting emails for others on this post along with my own, My Name is Edwin J Welch.
It may help some to know that I downoaded the purchased packages to my desktop. Both are ISO's and simply used my burner software to burn to a cd, one for each product. Then simply put in tray of cdrom and installed. You do need to put a new folder on the root of C: by using windows explorer and bringing up the tree and clicking on C: and in the menu it brings up select new folder and name it Acronis. The install used it to run their install files to as they install the program.
One Last question and that is where do I find the Pdf of the True Home extra package I purchased, I cannot find it on your home page??? Please reply. All is well on this end but it cost me extra and would like to know all it does. Thank You. Mr. Welch

Hello all,
Thank you for your posting.
Mr. Welch,
We do not have a separate PDF file concerning Plus Pack. You can view several articles available in our Knowledge base.
For example,
Acronis True Image Home 2010 Plus Pack
Installation of Acronis Plus Pack for Acronis True image Home 2010
Acronis True Image Home 2010 Plus Pack: Using Acronis Universal Restore, etc.
Simon,
The date available under your account is the date of the build release, for example, build #6053 has been released in 2009-11-23. A new version of ISO file is uploaded to the web site more frequently than regular product updates are released.
Neftaly,
I am unable to find any records about your trial downloads in our database.
Please do not hesitate to ask additional questions if the provided information is not clear or you need a further assistance.
Thank you.

Hi Oleg,
You cannot find trial downloads as I purchased the new T/H 2010 with the add on pack yesterday. Has not been posted to my account as yet or so I presume.
I checked a couple of the links you sent regarding my request for a pdf of usage of the add on pack. There is lot of info but nothing clear and concise has how to transfer my system and files to a new machine with different hardware which I would like to try, please remember that most of us out here are limited in technical terms and need some additional basic instructions. That is how I learned to use T/H and Disk Management a few years ago from the pdf manuals.
I also do not understand the posting of new ISO's to my account, what are they and what are they used ford???
I do really appreciate the help. Mr. Welch

Hi, I am sorry to say that the suggestions that I see above did not work on my computer.
I have a dual core computer, with old Seagate 1.5TB SATA Hard drive formatted in FAT32, four partitions.
I am trying to clone this old drive onto a new Hitachi 2TB SATA drive formatted with NTFS into several partitions.
I can see all the partitons on "my Computer" in Windows XP-pro.
Here's what I have done so far:
went to my purchases, selected bootable media, downloaded the ISO file, about 39 MB, burned that to a CD, and booted the computer from that CD.
Acronis logo comes up, and seems to be loading. a dialog says: "please wait..." then /bin/ipwatchd:error while loading shared libraries...etc. Then a fuzzy image appears with "Failed to read from Sector 0 of Hard Disk 0.
I tried to proceed to clone disks
and I got a message as follows:
Disk 1 0 bytes SCSI
Disk 2 0 bytes ATA Hitachi HDS72202 SCSI
Disk 3 1.819TB ATA Hitachi HDS72202 SATA
Can anyone tell me what I did wrong?
Why are SATA drives showing 0 bytes SCSI?
What to do now? Is there a different download that will be better able to perform the cloning operation that I want to do? How and where do I get that burned to my CD?
I am getting close to the same level of frustration that I see others have already reached. Hopefully someone will know what I can do to prevent total loss of what I have done so far.
Thanks for any help provided.

Mr.Welch unless you are also Neftaly, I think the reference to trial versions was aimed at Neftaly not you.
Once you've registered your serial number under your account on the Acronis website you will or should see a tab labelled 'Bootable Media'. Click on this and you will be abe to download an ISO version of the Rescue CD, this will then need to be burnt to a CD using programs like Nero, or G Burner etc.
You only need to download this ISO version if you have made a Rescue CD using TI2010 and have found that the Rescue CD cannot find all your hardware - such as disk drives, video drivers, network (if attached) etc. The ISO CD contains a different version of Linux to that of TI itself, which hopefully would be able to boot your PC and allow you to restore an image.
I would suggest that before making a Rescue CD, you should also download the Safe Media version (available from the Plug Ins tab), install it and then make the CD this will add a Safe Mode version to the Rescue CD manual which uses DOS based access to your drives which also may allow you to restore an image if the main Linux version is unable to do so.

Douglas,
Are you aware that when you eventually manage to get the clone to work, the new drive will also be in FAT32 format and if you wish to turn it into a NTFS drive you will need to run the MS FAT32 to NTFS converter after the clone.
Have you run chkdsk /r on your original drive?
Is the new drive installed in the computer or externally for the moment?
- Se connecter pour poster des commentaires
Hi Oleg,
Thanks for all the help. You explained the ISO well, but I have no need as I do not do disaster recovery. As explained I keep two drives cloned and if one goes down I just make a physical hook up of data and power to the spare drive and am back in service, I then clone back to the defective drive and it removes and restores the defective drive. The only problem I have had is when a virus got into my Cosmos and it corrupted both drives so I now know to do a complete discharge of the Cosmos before powering up the spare drive. So for me ISO's are not necessary. It is less time consuming to clone.
My last request is where to find instructions to use the T/H extra pack to move operating system to new machine as described in your advertising for this pack?? Mr. Welch

In response to Dbdgy, I was not aware of the reversion to Fat32 when cloning. where should I look for the fat32 to NTFS converter?
Secondly I am not sure, I get disk checks from time to time when I boot from the old disk. Thats the reason for the whole cloning business, to replace the old disk with one that will boot right away.
Finally, both old and new drives are mounted inside the tower case of the desktop.
I failed to ask why the seagate drive was recognized as a Hitachi drive when I tried to run the ISO file on the boot disk. Is the OS or bios at fault here?
thanks for your concerns.

Douglas,
The utility is built in to Windows.
Open up the Command window (Windows Button + r, type in cmd, press enter)
1. Run chkdsk /r - this will check the integrity of the partition layout, and repair (if possible). If this is your system drive (c:) you will need to reboot in order for checkdisk to run. Other partitions can be done without rebooting.
2. For any partition apart from the C:\; Close any programs or file that are open.
3. Type into the command window C:\> CONVERT DRIVE_LETTER: /fs:ntfs
To convert the system partition, just opne the command window and type in C:\> CONVERT C: /fs:ntfs and then follow the propmt to reboot.
The fact you are getting a sector 0 error might mean there is a problem with the old drive.
In answer to your second question, does the BIOS show the drives correctly?
It might be due to Linux having a problem (assuming the BIOS is correct), the fact the drive (s) are reproting themselves incorrectly or possibly the S-ata controller itself.
Does th eproblem disappear if you run the drives in IDE compatible mode - this can be chosen in the BIOS.

Mr Welch,
Were you replying to me?
Cloning expects to be cloned to the exact same hardware with the exception that the hard drive itself might be different.
From that it follows that the universal restore pack is NOT required and as far as I know only works when restoring an image, not from cloning.
{edited to include the word NOT}

Hi Collin,
I was replying to Oleg, and explaining I do not need disaster recovery ISO's as I clone my drives and use one and keep the clone in reserve off line as replacement in case of a problem with first drive. I know how to clone been doing it for over 3 years.
What I need is instructions to use the add on pack for the new True Home 2010, I just purchased along with the new True Home 2010 software. Acronis claims the add on pack can move a entire operating system and programs from the original machine to a new machine even if it has different hardware and I need some instructions since I paid for it.
Refer to their home store page to see what they advertise.
Let Oleg or whoever is posting for Acronis answer for themselves. Thanks. Mr. Welch

Hello Mr Welch,
With cloning you don't need or are able to use the Plus Pack!
The plus pack are for those who make disk images.
I am well aware of what Acronis advertises and have used an early edition of the plus pack/universal restore.
However as you feel happier dealing with Acronis directly, I suggest you contact their chat line as this is one of it's raison d'etres.

Hello Pete,
Thank you for posting your question, I will be happy to help.
You should check the functionality of Acronis Bootable Media to make sure that you can restore the archive if the operating system becomes unbootable.
First of all, please make sure that you are using the latest build of the program #6053.
You can check it navigating mouse cursor to upper line of the program then press ALT + left mouse button -> Help -> About
If the build number differs from the latest one, please update the program. You can learn more on how to download the latest build here.
After that create Acronis Bootable Media by means of Acronis Media Builder and boot the system from it. Manage a recovery operation (don't hit the Proceed button) and see if the hardware is detected properly.
Please let us know the results, we should be sure that the program runs flawlessly. If the provided information is not clear or if you have any other question do not hesitate to post them and we will be glad to answer.
Thank you.

I have a PC Toshiba (Tecra), with WinXP (Service Pack 3), Portuguese version.
My PC is fully updated with the “automatic updates" from the Microsoft, and has no apparent problems or stupid errors.
Now, I need to clone my intern disk with a 100GB (SATA) to another with 200GB (SATA).
With the Acronis Migrate Easy 7.0 and the WinXP (Service Pack 3) there is any trick, that I need to do (?), for there were no errors during the image realization (mirror) to the new disk (200GB).
Please, if I need to do anything, please, I need to know step-by-step what I need to do.

Hello Jose,
Thank you for posting your question, I will be happy to help.
If you use a laptop, to clone the existing hard drive to a new one you should apply so called reverse clone. You should put the new drive in the laptop first, and connect the old one via USB. Only after this you may do the cloning. Otherwise you will not be able to boot from the new cloned drive.
Please see this article for more information, it was created for Acronis True Image, but the basic steps are the same.
Please let us know the results, we should be sure that the program runs flawlessly. If the provided information is not clear or if you have any other question do not hesitate to post them and we will be glad to answer.
Thank you.

I'm with you and Tom.
I have version 2010 and at first it seemed to work flawlessly. What the hell happened?
And the fact that "It is no longer supported" really sucks. I and many others put our trust in them and this is how they screw us.
I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling. It seems to backup but the green "successful" does not show when done.
When i look at the external drive all "seems" to be there, BUT is it reliable in case of a failure to restore? I scarred to hell to think it will work.
I'd really hate to rely on doing backups with Microsoft, YIKES!

Alan,
Start by looking at the log file and checking it for errors. There are reasons you are not getting the green and look at all events listed for a specific day where the green is missing. You could have a rogue task failing on the same day as when other tasks are good. One error on a given day will stop the green from appearing--even if all other for that day was successful.
