How to copy programs in XP computer into windows 7 harddrive

Thread needs solution

I am going to purchase a Windows 7 computer this weekend. My question is about how to copy all programs (and data) installed on the current Windowx XP machine into the new Windows 7 computer. I have been using Acronis True Image (ATI) 2010 and saved a few backup files (tib) in a portable drive. After installing ATI on the new windows 7 computer, I wonder whether XP windows partition (in tib) can be restored into Windows 7 harddrive (sans Win XP OS). Please advise me. Bluefilter

You cannot "copy" installed applications from XP to Win7. You must install them.

You can make a file and folder backup of your user data files and restore that to the new PC, or just mount the backup after installing ATI on the new PC and then copy the files from the backup.
