how do I determine the partitions offset in windows for an ssd or any hard drive
How do I determine the partitions offset for an ssd before I back it up? For that matter how do I determine the partitions offset for any drive? I am using windows. Is there any command or software that will easily display this information for me? I've been reading about alignment problems in this forum with respect t ssd's when full volume backups are restored.
Is there any other software that DOCUMENTS that they retain the correct offset? I really would like to know how to find what my offsets are before doing any backups or restores (in case I ever need to restore).
Thank you,
Bob

Oleg can you please advise if this is an unaligned partition? This is a laptop 160 GB drive which was cloned with True Image. It is the C: system drive. WDC WD 1600BEVS. If it not aligned what should the alignment be changed to.... I have Acronis Disk Director 11. Running Vista 32 Home premium.

all your disks appear to start at 32256, which is the pre-Vista orientation of sector 63, called unaligned in the context of this thread. There is no right or wrong orientation, its just that Vista and W7 have chosen to start the first partition at a different location on the disk (sector 2048 vs. sector 63). But they will run with the partition located at a different starting sector, so there's no reason to move anything. I have Vista 32 Home Premium like you, and have moved my partitions to start at 32256 (sector 63) rather than sector 2048 as they came from the factory.
