How do I recover a single file

Thread needs solution

I want to retrieve a single file from the backup made on a specific date, and copy it to another location.

Exactly what are the steps I have to take to do this?

And more importantly at this point, how long should it take? Everything I do results in a "Please wait" message which persists for 10+ minutes. I never get to the point where I can select that file. I finally give up.

You have various options.

- You can boot from the ATI2013 bootable Rescue Media and choose a files/folders restore, selecting the files and folders you wish to restore.

- If ATI is installed, you could mount the backup and copy files/folders from it to the new location.

- If ATI is installed, you could double-click the backup to open it in Windows Explorer, then copy files/folders from it to the new location.

You gotta be kidding! Maybe you don't understand. There is only 1 computer. I want to get a prior verson of a file and restore it to my c:, but in a different location so it doesn't overwrite the existing version. Help documentation talks about the "Backup Explorer", but I have no idea what that is. I can't seem to get to anything that shows me what was backed-up on a specific day so I can select the specific file I want. I usually get to something that displays a "Please Wait" message that I can't get past, as after 10-15 minutes or so I just Cancel.

Calm down and read what I wrote. I understand, and gave you three methods.
You don't need a second PC, it just sounded as though that may be where you intended copying the file to (the "another location").

Choose one of those methods that suits you.

When you mount or explore a backup, you can browse to find exactly the file you want in Windows Explorer.
