How do we identify the condition of a backup with errors?

Thread needs solution

After backing up our computer the backup shows a RED 'X' between the source and destination circles on the backup window, instead of a green checkmark. When pressing the red 'X' we see the following warning:

"Failed to exclusively access a backup file during consolidation. Make sure the file is not opened in other applications."

Furthermore, the "Check for a Solution" link, in the dialog, indicates "There is no information about this error available now." Our frustration is that the error does not identify the file(s) in question or indicate whether the whole backup is bad, just a file, or some other problem - let alone a solution.

In may ways, the new Acronis True Image 2015 has been so simplified that it is even more difficult and confusing to use than ever. For example, we cannot access an intelligible log anymore (we have found the logs, but they are too cryptic for us). Furthermore, the error message indicates a consolidation issue, but we suspicion it may have been a validation issue with a file we had open at the time. The lack of information is insane.

Under the circumstance, how can a user even know if they have a reliable backup? How do we know which file(s) triggered the problem? If it is a validation issue, is the backup still good, other than one of the files simply would not validate?

Thank you for any help.

Not sure if this will help but have a look:

Does your backup validate? Your problem can come either from the fact that ATI doesn't find the right expected file, or that this file is not available for ATI to access. A validation could help ascertain which case you face. The reasons for the second case can be multiple: online issue, credential issue, disk issue, or process issue (see link above).
