How to schedule validation?

Thread needs solution

After having been bitten by thinking my backups were valid when going to do a restore (when they were not) I would like to schedule validation to occur regularly. I would set these to run in the night some time after backup, and hopefully in the morning there will be a log somewhere, or a screen in the UI, that allows me to check on the validation status.

I thought I saw an option for scheduling validations in 2010, but have not been able to find it in 2011.

Any help appreciated.

A similar question, perhaps more at the root of what I want is: How can I ensure my backups are valid before I am at the point I need them for restore? I don't want to get bitten again by thinking I'm covered with valid backups and find out I'm not.

Tim,
You can schedule regular validation in the backup options > validation. Validation can be run right after the backup automatically, and/or scheduled as a separate task for each backup task.

Here is the way you can increase your level of confidence in a backup, by increasing level confidence:
a validate the backup in windows (can be done automatically),
b mount the image backup in windows (requires manual intervention),
c validate the backup from the recovery media (that will make sure you can run the recovery media at least),
d restore the backup from the recovery media on a trial disk (before you actual try to overwrite your "real" disk),
e restore the backup on its original disk.

I would do c at least one time, and then from time to time.

This is for disk/partition backups or for file/backup. For non-stop backups, you cannot validate or mount the image, so only d) would work (this is why I don't use NSB as my only backup).
