How to setup tasks for even/odd days as with ATI 7.0?

Thread needs solution

Hi folks

A friend of mine was using Acronis True Image 7.0 since yesterday. She was using two tasks, one for even days, the other for odd days. She was backing up to two external USB disks, one for each task.

Now she is using ATIH 2012 and desperately looking for an equivalent for these 7.0 "tasks", because she wants to continue using these two disks in this way:

For every month,

- at 1. she erases all pre-month backups and does a full backup to the "odd" disk
- at 2. she erases all pre-month backups and does a full backup to the "even" disk
- at every odd day until end of the month she does an incremental backup to the "odd" disk
- at every even day until end of the month she does an incremental backup to the "even" disk

How can she implement such a backup method with ATIH 2012?

I was looking up this matter for her but the only thing I found was:

- there are backup chains, but a chain is on a days per day basis, not odd or even days
- backup chains can only be one after another, as far as I understood, not in parallel, and not interlocked

So what can I / can she do?

Thanks in advance
georgie

Version 2012 doesn't operate the same way at vesion 7. Sometimes it really does help to read the instructions. ;)

You can set the schedule for diff days of the week when you want a task to run. See p 148 of the user guide.

"
To open the Scheduler window, click the Turn on link to the right of Schedule while configuring a backup.. . .
"

ON a daily schedule, set one task to run on MWF and the other to run on STTS.

Or on a monthly schedule, se one to run on 1,3,5,. . . and the other to run on 2,4,6. . .

RE when incs are made or files consolidated or erased, you set that by creating/editing a backup Scheme -- see p. 56 of user guide.

You can find the user guide here
http://www.acronis.com/support/documentation/index.html

Scott,

thank you so much for your reply and explanation. For sure, I've read parts of the User's Guide, but not all the 229 (!) pages. I'm sure you will understand ;). Hints where to read were/are highly appreciated.

Already before asking for help:
- The backup scheme I've selected is the Incremental Scheme because of its behavior.
- no schedule selected
- did just a full backup as the first of the chain

Then, I was thinking too complicated. As she wants to do backups manually, this is my solution:

I will create two incremental backup definitions showing up separately on the main screen. No schedule will be defined. Each backup shall work to a separate location ("odd", "even", on different external disks). Backups shall be started manually according to the current day/date.

Anything wrong with this?

georgie

She has only to load ati and run the tasks if she doesn't want to let ATI do them automatically.
