howto keep backing up when backup disk gets full?

Thread needs solution

Hi,
I'm using TI20015 build #6613 on Win8.1 x64 and I have a backup that has been running fine until today. It is a version chain scheme backup that runs every hour. I'm trying to get something similar to Apple's Time Machine.

Unfortunately now that the backups have filled my disk TI has decided to fail and stop doing the backups rather than remove the old backups and keep backing my stuff up.

Based on some Google'ing I found that I should turn off notifications for insufficient free disk space. Alas, that doesn't solve my problem.

Also, there doesn't seem to be any options to customise the version chain scheme. It says it will delete versions older than 6 months. The versions I want it to auto-delete are much newer than that.

When I look at my backup folder I have 17 file sets with _full_ in the name with each set being created once per day.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

You need to set up new backup tasks which invoke the automatic cleanup rulesl. The examples below can help. which one will depend upon the specifics of your personal preferences on the type of backups and how many to keep.

------------------------------------------------

Depending upon the type of backup scheme you wish to create, here is an example of each type. These can be set up for Disk image, or Partiton, or Files-folders backups. These example show how to set up automatic cleanup so the program will do the deletion after it reaches your set goal of how many chains to retain.

Editing an existing task is not recommended. Rarely does an edited task perform to user expectations. It is usually better to start with a new task using a new non-identical task name and point to a new storage sub-folder so each task has it own storage folder/sub-folder. Old task can be stopped or deleted from the task listings.

Thanks I'll try re-crating my backup with a custom configuration. I think it's a bit strange that the software doesn't offer me the option for it to work like Time Machine so I don't have to learn all this stuff and go through all this configuration.

Ideally, it would look at the space available and just clean itself up...
