HP 6550B RESTORE

Thread needs solution

I have an image of the laptop- It backed up and verfied successfully, however I cannot restore the image. It always stops in a failed state.
Thinking the issue is a corrupt image- I restore an image of my laptop (dell) to the 6550b. the restore process went through with no issues (did not boot though-- but expected)
I have since tried 3x and with the same outcome
Is there a trick to imaging these machines (6550b)-- help
thank you

Dan,

Can you post a screen capture of your disk management console?

Are you restoring from Windows, or from the CD?

I was restoring from the CD.
I will have to wait for the screen shot-- the laptop was deployed already.
If you tell me what you maight be looking for I can probably tell you

thanks!

Dan,

I wanted to make sure you have basic disks and that you included all your partitions (included the hidden ones, if any) in your backup.

They were basic disks- i had the option of converting to dynamic
the partitions listed were )as listed in acronis
c:\ system 100+ mb
d:\ OS 27 gig
e:\ tools partition
f:\ recovery partition

I did not see any hidden partitions in disk management.
Under the active restore is stated it was disabled because the disk was not initialized.. (i believe that was the message)

thanks for your help!

It looks like you have the right backup...
So when you restore the entire disk, including MBR+track0, the recovery fails?

Dan,
Not sure about your specific model but other HP's have configurations different than you are reporting.

Note the attached which shows one HP example. As shown in disk management, the first partition is hidden or non-lettered and and the HP Tools is the last partition.

Did you convert these from basic to Dynamic? What version of Windows and are you using the 2011 TIH home version with the Plus Pack?

MBR and disk - failed
MBR and volumes - failed

1 image always failed in the same spot (2.33gb)
the other 2 fluctuated and never failed in the same spot

I did not convert to dynamic
I reviewed the link data - nice table-- thanks
the first partition - 199mb.. always showed as C:\

Windows version is 7 64bit
Using Acronis 10

Are you referring to the 3 yr old version 10 or the more recent version 2010 (but not the current version 2011?

When you indicate the first partition shows as C, I am assuming that you referring to how it appears in the TI Recovery CD?

If you are wanting to restore your Windows Drive C, that partition will be referenced with a different drive letter when booted from the CD.

Use partition sizes or description to make sure you are attempting to restore the correct target partition.

Click on my yellow signature link below and look at the Compaq illustration listed in index item #3-BB. This should help you to understand what you will see.

When you created your backup, did you include all partitions within the backup?
