Huge delays in creating image or doing incremental backups

Thread needs solution

I've been using Acronis Home Edition since I bought it back in 2008. I'm now running the 2009 v9809.

Since I upgraded to this latest version a week ago I've noticed that a full image backup (done once per week) now takes 6-8 hours when it used to take 2+ hrs for backing up a 80gig disk to an external 500gig drive. I'm using XP-Pro w/ all the latest updates and service packs.

My daily incremental backups are taking upwards of 4 hours for approximately 5 gigs!

This is totally abnormal. I've compared these times with other users and no-one is getting the severe delays I am. It's almost as if my PC is trying to upload my backup into a "cloud".

What could be going on? What do you recommend I do?

Can I & should I roll back to the previous version? I'm not even sure how to do that.

I'm pretty desperate as you can imagine. Any help will be gratefully appreciated!

My first check would be to run ChkDsk C: /R from a command prompt.

Windows will only want to do this following a shutdown.

or if you have the Recovery Console installed, you ran turn chkdsk from there.
