I don't know how to select a network hard drive as the destination of a backup file
Hello
I am having troubles to do a backup with acronis on a network hard drive. The thing is that Acronis does not show this drive as one of the posible destinations for the backup and therefore I can't select it as the destination of the backup. How can I fix this?
The network hard drive is a 1GB Goflex.
Any idea?
Thanks

Also, to take this possibility out of the equation, Non-Stop Backup doesn't support backing up to networked drives.
Assuming you are doing a regular disk and partition, file or email backup, can you see the share in Windows explorer?
Are you using Win 7 homegroup? If yes, disable it and use windows accounts and passwords.

I have the similar problem. I have WD My Book Live connected to the router. Notebook with ATIH 2011 is connected to it wirelessly (or by cable, that doesnt matter). In windows explorer i see mybook in network places, also i mapped a drive as \\nasname\Public to Z:. I see that share in explorer. Router, drive & windows has all latests updates. Win7 HP x64.
When I'm trying to select location for storing a backup i dont see mapped drive in the list in a storage destination selection dialog. Also i dont see drive after selecting network item (only other local PC's). But if I enter the path like \\nasname\Public, ATIH immediately displays it under network item and allows to change username&password.
So it might be not a problem, but if i'd like to set "backup reserve copy" option, then I have to select location from the constant list. In that dialog is no editable field, so i cant input UNC path and thus cant select path for that option.
Homegroup is disabled (but i dont understand why should it be disabled for windows 7 compatible software).
In attach is a screenshot with simultaneously shown windows explorer and ATIH storage destination dialog. In explorer u can see mapped drive and NAS (\\3bitjoey) in network places. But ATIH doesnt show both of them: nor mapped drive, nor network drive.

I found the cause of that. I forgot to mention about the environment, namely: i'm logged in as ordinary user, acronis requires admin rights to launch and so it works under admin account. Network drive is mapped under user, but not for admin, that is why acronis didnt display it.
So solution is very easy: log as admin user, map network drive there and that's it! I just want to say, that however it's not an ATIH bug, but that still a very confusing behavior. May be it is a good idea to show any warnings in file dialogs? At least for first-time appearance.
