Incremental Backup

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I'm using the latest ISO(Build 7,046) for making a bootable Acronis True Home Image 10 CD. I've booted from this and I've backed up some of the partitions on my hard drive. I used the incremental option. I have a few questions about this:

1. How do I ensure that if I want to do another backup, after a change, it doesn't create a full backup again? Do I use the boot CD and select the 'add to existing backup archive'? Or do I just go in and reselect the partitions I backed up the first time?

2. How does doing a disk defrag affect things? Will it cause a completely new backup?

3. I read that after a restore, I should create another backup as things on the disk have changed? I have noticed, for example, that the space reserved for the MFT grows after a restore, even though I had it set to a different value and different position on the disk (I use UltimateDefrag 2008 to change this). I would have thought that this information is locked in some sort of system file or registry etc.

4. Exiting the program doesn't re-start my system which is a Precision Dell 690 - it just hangs with the words "Restarting System".

Thanks

Mohammed

Mohammed,

1. You will need to selct the partitions you wish to image AND select the existing archive - this is only for CD based operatiosn as you can't set up a task.

2. Defragging a disk will cause a Full image to be made.

3. Have no answer for that one at this time.

4. This is probably due to the fact Dell systems have a Dell MBR that jumps to a different place than 'vanilla' MBR's, so the Linux kernel is probably trying to hand over to code that doesn't exist in that particular location in your system.
